2024 CTL Girls Player of the Week: Round 13
OAKLEIGH midfielder Sarah Poustie has made it back to back Chargers Player of the Week nominations after getting the nod for her performance in the Coates Talent League Girls’ Round 13. Poustie started on-ball and was all over the ground, accumulating a stack of the ball and setting up scoring chains.
Poustie notched up a game high 32 disposals – 14 kicks, 18 handballs – as well as five marks, three tackles and six inside 50s, while narrowly missing a couple of chances on goal for two behinds. The top-age player has enjoyed a consistent season for the Chargers, also representing the Under 23 All-Stars and more recently Vic Metro, where she has held her own across multiple matches.
The midfielder had eight more touches than anyone else on the field during Oakleigh’s 6.16 (52) to 2.0 (12) victory over Geelong Falcons at a windy Avalon Airport Oval in Werribee to take the Chargers’ win-loss record to 10-1 for the 2024 season.
As a key cog in Oakleigh’s midfield, Poustie has averaged 25.2 disposals, 3.4 marks, 5.5 inside 50s and a whopping 10.7 tackles in 2024. Her tally of 32 disposals on the weekend was her highest, just shading her 31-disposal effort against the Murray Bushrangers back in Round 6.
Her nomination made it back-to-back Chargers after Chloe Bown won it in Round 12, with Bown having another big game of 25 disposals, three marks, four tackles and five inside 50s. Also prominent among the bests were the likes of Abbey Vicino (17 disposals, two marks, six tackles, three inside 50s and two goals) and Emma McDonald (16 disposals, nine marks, three hitouts, two inside 50 and 1.3).
It was a really even round across the board, with past winners Jemma Reynolds and Ash Centra both having 30-disposal performances in the wet in their respective sides wins. Elli Symonds (22 disposals, two goals) made a successful return, while Tahlia Sanger (24 disposals, one goal) was another standout for the Stingrays.
Despite playing in a loss, Holly Egan had a day out for the Murray Bushrangers with 33 disposals, four marks, nine tackles and six rebound 50s, while Olivia Jesser was the best on the winning side kicking three goals from 15 touches, three marks and five tackles.
Eastern Ranges wing Evie Parker was prominent for her side during its big win over Calder Cannons, notching up 24 touches, six marks, five inside 50s and kicking two goals, while Isla Baldwin was another 30-disposal winner from across the weekend.
