Scouting Notes: 2024 Coates Talent League Girls – Round 15

A FEW one-sided contests and some massive individual performances headlined Round 15 of the Coates Talent League Girls. We took a look at some of the standout performers for our Scouting Notes with the focus mostly on state representatives. As always our notes are the opinion of the individual author.

  • Western Jets

Eastern Ranges 18.14 (122) defeated Western Jets 3.4 (22)

EASTERN RANGES:

#2 Zoe Vozzo
Wing/Midfielder | 164cm | 06/02/2007

Stats: 14 disposals, 6 marks, 2 tackles, 1 inside 50, 2 goals, 2 behinds

Vozzo played a terrific offensive wing role, working hard into space, holding onto her marks and sneaking forward to kick a couple of goals in the huge win. She earned her first major through a brilliant tackle in the goalsqure where she earned a holding the ball free kick, with her second coming from the boundary on her non-preferred left foot which bounced home despite being a little awkward. She set up another goal to Kelsie Ternes inside 50 and looked lively throughout the match, also moving on-ball in the third term.

#7 Stasia Stevenson
Forward | 164cm | 02/10/2006

Stats: 21 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle, 4 inside 50s, 2 behinds

Always having plenty of influence, Stevenson once again just bobbed up with some classy plays inside 50, Though she missed a couple of shots, she hit up targets inside 50 and dished off by hand to set up a stack of scoring opportunities. Her indirect scoreboard impact each match is always very high, and her work rate in and around the 50 stands out. Though not having much midfield time compared to usual, being forward in a 100-point win is not so bad.

#10 Jordyn Allen
Defender/Midfielder | 166cm | 12/11/2007

Stats: 21 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 6 inside 50s, 1 behind

Got her chance playing inside midfield for portions throug the game and got to display her capabilities there. While Allen was still able to show off her run and carry when bursting from the middle, she was able to use it to get out of traffic. She had a brilliant run-down tackle at half-forward but was not really rewarded for it as her team played on as the ball was being thrown back to her and the umpire let it go. Overall though, her work around the ground was very good and she will be a an impressive prospect for next year with her skills a highlight.

#11 Grace Belloni
Midfielder/Forward | 174cm | 09/09/2006

Stats: 29 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 2 inside 50s, 3 goals

A big game from the top-age talent who continues a brilliant season through the midfield. Considering she spent a lot of time forward, Belloni racked up the ball with ease, lead out and clunked some good marks, then converted three goals, including two in the final term from set shots. Her first was a classy finish on the run from a handball receive 10 minutes into the match, and as a whole she looked dangerous throughout. Belloni earned our Rookie Me Central Coates Talent League Girls Player of the Week for Round 15.

#12 Georgia Knight
Forward | 164cm | 11/10/2006

Stats: 13 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles, 1 inside 50, 4 goals

There was no way in a triple-digit win that Knight was not going to fill her boots and she did just that with four goals, working well in tandem amongst the other dangerous Ranges forwards. She clunked a couple of marks, snapped a couple of goals and if she did not take the grab, she was quick to recover and get ball to boot. Such a smart and dangerous forward, Knight is one who will be amongst the leading goalkickers at year’s end, currently three ahead of Tasmania’s Ava Read (24-21) though Knight’s regular season has come to an end.

#13 Georgie Brisbane
Forward | 175cm | 13/12/2006

Stats: 17 disposals, 6 marks, 5 tackles, 4 hitouts, 2 inside 50s, 1 goal, 3 behinds

When Brisbane is up and about she is so difficult to stop with her strong contested marking ability and willingness to get her hands dirty at ground level. The Ranges captain was again impressive, and while she missed a few chances with three behinds from four shots, Brisbane kept presenting and proving a headache for the Jets defence. Her defensive pressure and work up the ground caught the eye and she set up her teammates by drawing attention and getting up the ground.

#17 Grace Baba
Defender | 177cm | 17/09/2006

Stats: 21 disposals, 1 tackle, 6 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50, 1 goal

Despite playing off half-back, Baba once again went full pedal to the metal and slammed home a goal from outside 50 with a vacant goalsquare. One of those players who just has a full throttle approach to everything she does, the energy Baba brings is infectious. She always looks lively and is clean at ground level, and though not taking a mark in the game that is usually her bread and butter, Baba was able to impact in a number of ways. At times she might have to adjust when to burst off and when to hold up, but she is an exciting talent with enormous upside.

#24 Evie Parker
Wing | 179cm | 06/07/2006

Stats: 17 disposals, 7 marks, 2 tackles, 7 inside 50s

Though it was Vozzo’s turn to hit the scoreboard off a wing this week, Parker still played her role and found space around the ground well. She took a stack of marks both as an option out wide and intercepting by holding her line well. Always looking to go into the corridor or for a more dangerous position, Parker can still make some mistakes and wait a touch too long to dispose of it, but at 179cm with her speed and work rate, she just keeps impressing and will no doubt have plenty of interest this year.

#28 Asher Fearn-Wannan
Defender/Midfielder | 175cm | 14/12/2007

Stats: 17 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackle, 8 hitouts, 4 inside 50s

A really unique left-footer who has some promising traits and is highly rated internally, the 175cm utility showed protential both off half-back and rolling into the midfield. Fearn-Wannan started on-ball in the second quarter, and her release by hand, as well as vision and execution by foot was very good, and seems one of those players who can really hurt opposition sides if she can get around the ball. At 175cm, Fearn-Wannan also has the athleticism to go into the ruck, so is a blank canvas to build on next year in her top-age season.

#42 Brylee Anderson
Defender/Midfielder | 172cm | 23/03/2008

Stats: 19 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackle, 3 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s

Anderson is one who has already experienced midfield minutes, and she gained more exposure there in second half after starting in defence. She took the kickouts, but as the game progressed and she moved on-ball, she showed off the traits that earned her an MVP for VIc Metro at Under 16s level. A natural accumulator, Anderson was again able to use the ball well and move in transition, and is quick by hand under pressure.

WESTERN JETS:

#9 Sierra Grieves
Midfielder | 163cm | 18/05/2006

Stats: 21 disposals, 3 marks, 8 tackles, 6 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s

Battling hard against an ultra-strong and deep opposition midfield, Grieves did what she could and ended up one of Western’s best as she has each week this year. She kicked her side’s first goal late in the opening term after marking on the forward side of the centre square and earned a 50m penalty for encroachement. She won her typical amount of centre clearnaces and moved well through traffic, accumulating the ball and consistently getting it moving in transition to be the only Jet with multiple inside 50s (six).

#26 Piper Dixon
Forward | 158cm | 16/10/2008

Stats: 5 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle, 1 inside 50, 2 goals, 1 behind

The bottom-age forward kicked yet another two goals despite featuring in a heavy loss, with the small and dangerous talent always making the most of her opportunities. She kicked one thanks to intercepting a handball in the goalsquare then slotted a ridiculous checkside from the boundary. If the Jets get enough inside 50s for her to go to work, Dixon has the potential to go really big.

#30 Alex McBride-Loane
Defender/Ruck | 173cm | 03/04/2007

Stats: 18 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles, 7 hitouts, 7 rebound 50s

Best-on for the Jets in the loss, McBride-Loane worked incredibly hard starting in defence, rotating into the ruck and then going back into defence. She saved a couple of goals including a one-on-one contest where McBride-Loane rushed it across the line, and then a few minutes later saved a goal with a great run-down tackle. Competed well in the ruck thanks to her superb vertical leap, and regularly mopped up, sharing the kickout duties as well.

  • Team
  • Murray Bushrangers
  • Dandenong Stingrays

Murray Bushrangers 1.5 (11) lost to Dandenong Stingrays 7.6 (48)

MURRAY BUSHRANGERS:

#9 Holly Egan
Defender | 176cm | 01/07/2006

Stats: 25 disposals, 3 marks, 6 tackles, 1 inside 50, 7 rebound 50s

Required in defence for the majority of the match, Egan and her defensive partners were often undersiege, but she did well to hold her own, clunking a great one-on-one mark early in the second term as an example. More of a rebounding defender, Egan still did plenty of that and impressed greatly, utilising her slick sidestep to get around opponents en route to another big game, mopping up consistently in the back 50.

#10 Sophia Green
Defender/Midfielder | 171cm | 22/11/2008

Stats: 22 disposals, 4 marks, 6 tackles, 6 rebound 50s

Predominantly played across defence for the match to assist in quelling the Stingrays’ forward thrusts, Green applied great defensive pressure, was strong one-on-one and looked to break tackles to get the ball clear. Though run-down at different points, Green gave as good as she got, and always went in hard. She is terrific overhead and was a prolific rebounder alongside Egan in that back half, finishing as one of Murray’s top players for the match.

#14 Ellie Hall
Midfielder/Defender | 174cm | 07/07/2006

Stats: 31 disposals, 12 marks, 5 tackles, 3 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50

Returned to the side and was best-on for the Bushrangers, largely playing through the middle, then going into defence in the second and fourth quarters. Such a reliable overhead mark, Hall racked up double-digit grabs to go with an equal season-high 31 disposals, the most on the ground. Her kicking generally was fantastic and though at times when rushed she can turn it over, her delivery by foot going inside 50 is exactly what the Bushrangers forwards would love to see.

#24 Rose Bell
Forward/Defender | 170cm | 18/03/2008

Stats: 17 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles, 2 inside 50s, 6 rebound 50s

Started forward and then went back, Bell did not see a lot of it early due to lack of opportunities, but when moved into defence, began to rack it up. She competed well one-on-one, gathered at ground level and put her body on the line, and the Giants Academy member also laid a great run-down tackle inside the defensive 50 on Besanko to save a goal. Another really consistent all-round game.

DANDENONG STINGRAYS:

#3 Jemma Reynolds
Midfielder | 163cm | 29/04/2006

Stats: 24 disposals, 9 marks, 3 inside 50s, 5 rebound 50s

Having hardly played a bad game all year, Reynolds’ form held true in the win, working hard around the ground predominanly playing through the middle. Her work to get back behind the ball and show off her two-way running when required was very good, with her aerial presence a surprise addition this week. Though more than capable overhead, Reynolds is usually a ground level player, but she reminded everyone just how much she can impact in the air and was just as clean as always once the ball hit the deck.

#4 Tahlia Sanger
Wing | 167cm | 18/08/2006

Stats: 22 disposalks, 1 mark, 7 tackles, 6 inside 50s, 3 rebound 50s

After a quieter start, Sanger worked into the game and had a massive final quarter, racking up the ball with ease. Her highlights included a great goal-sacing rackle on Rain Dodd in defence aand then was able to compete in the air early in the fourth, bring it to ground and kick inside 50 before getting forward to win another touch and deliver a lovely kick to Makhaela Bluhm. Had a chance on goal in the final moments but just missed. Sanger was fantastic defensively and kept pushing pressure on the opposition defence.

#6 Zoe Besanko
Forward/Ruck | 178cm | 25/05/2006

Stats: 16 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles, 15 hitouts, 4 inside 50s, 1 goal, 1 behind

One of Besanko’s more complete games for the year and arguably second best performance behind her Round 3 effort against the Falcons, the Dandenong skipper did well rotating between forward and ruck. She only kicked the one goal but worked hard in the forward half of the ground, sharing the load with Elli Symonds in the ruck just like last season. She is not afraid to scrap at ground level as well, and if she can build on her form then watch out for finals.

#9 Elli Symonds
Tall Utility | 178cm | 07/10/2006

Stats: 14 disposals, 2 marks, 7 tackles, 13 hitouts, 5 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50, 2 behinds

Worked well in trandem with Besanko between the ruck and forward, and even spent time on-ball in the fourth quarter. A real blank slate in terms of not having a ceiling, Symonds’ ground level work and defensive pressure was outstanding, laying a great run-down taackle early on the wing. She would pressure the opposition consistently, and while only kicking the two behinds in the end, held her own in the ruck and impacted all around the ground.

#11 Kayla Dalgleish
Forward/Midfielder | 161cm | 15/07/2006

Stats: 26 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 2 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50

A promising performance from the slick small who started forward and rotated into the midfield. She is capable of using both sides of her body, and her defensive elements which always standout were there even if not credited with tackles. She was lively, presented when inside 50 and her second and third efforts were very good. Even when around stoppages, Dalgleish did offer a clearance option despite being the smallest of her side’s midfielders, and always throws herself at contests, not afraid of the challenge.

#22 Mizuki Brothwell
Defender | 170cm | 22/10/2007

Stats: 16 disposals, 2 marks, 3 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s, 1 behind

In what was the best combined game of the Brothwell twins, Mizuki showed the traits that have plenty at the Stingrays excited for what she can produce next year. An aggressive running defender, she even had a chance on goal after marking on the wing and getting downfield to have a shot. Her follow-up work is good and while still learning some fundaments of the game, has developed into a natural rebounder who competes in the air and has the mobility to do well at ground level.

#28 Nalu Brothwell
Forward | 170cm | 22/10/2007

Stats: 14 disposals, 9 tackles, 1 hitout, 4 inside 50s, 4 goals

In a breakout game for Nalu, the forward slotted four straight goals in an impressive showing. Two came from regularyion set shots, with another from long-range and the fourth from running into the open goalsquare. She not only got the job done offensively, but her defensive work – which has always been good for a general forward – went to another level with nine tackles to lock the ball inside 50 time and time again.

#54 Ruby Geurts
Defender | 169cm | 17/09/2008

Stats: 17 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 1 inside 50, 3 rebound 50s

A promising Under 16s talent, Geurts is an eye-catching future prospect who can find the ball and impact games in a variety of ways. She gathers well in the defensive half and uses the ball effecively in transition. Rarely wasting a touch, the general defender held her own and competed well in the air, providing great run and caryr down the ground.

  • Team
  • Tasmania Devils
  • Calder Cannons

Tasmania Devils 7.12 (54) defeated Calder Cannons 2.3 (15)

TASMANIA DEVILS:

#1 Mischa Barwin
Forward | 164cm | 04/12/2007

Stats: 22 disposals, 5 marks, 7 tackles, 5 inside 50s

Barwin really thrived in the game and was next best behind Bowering, workiing hard from half-forward before being thrown on-ball in the last term. She covered the ground well and her defensive pressure was sky-high, willing to back up and lay multiple tackles within a contest and harrass the opposition. With ball in hand, Barwin is always clean, and while she can run into trouble trying to do a bit too much at times, she has the licence to do so with the way she moves through traffic and can use the ball well in transition.

#4 Ava Read
Forward | 176cm | 21/06/2006

Stats: 10 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 1 inside 50, 2 goals, 4 behinds

The usually dead-eye Read missed a few chances you would normally expect her to nail, but as always her set shots rarely looked like missing, with only one of her four behinds being from a set shot, and that was a poster in the first term. She worked higher up the ground to get involved at times, but continually competed in the air.

#9 Mia Anderson
Midfielder | 166cm | 14/02/2007

Stats: 20 disposals, 1 mark, 5 tackles, 4 inside 50s

Anderson found her fair share of the ball, with most of her touches being handballs out of traffic. She was under immense pressure at times and often had to rush particularly when clearing out of traffic, but when having the time to move through the congestion, she showed some great evasion and slick hands to find targets on the outside of the coalface.

#15 Priya Bowering
Midfielder | 167cm | 02/01/2007

Stats: 47 disposals, 5 marks, 6 tackles, 10 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50, 1 goal

A mind-boggling performance from the talented bottom-ager and one of the top AFLW Draft prospects next year. She did everything en route to a 47-disposal performance and her efforts were detailed in our Round 15 Coates Talent League Girls Player Focus.

>> PRIYA BOWERING PLAYER FOCUS

#17 Natasha Furjanic
Wing | 169cm | 24/07/2006

Stats: 13 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles, 4 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50

Furjanic is a raw talent with some nice potential traits, and while the top-ager is not a huge possession winner, she caught the eye in the game with her run off a wing. She covered the ground well, has some great speed and was strong overhead too. With time and space she can do well with her disposal, and though can be rushed at times which affects the efficiency as well as a little fumbly at ground level, certainly did well across the board in impacting the game as a whole.

#26 Harriet Bingley
Forward | 172cm | 23/03/2007

Stats: 15 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles, 2 inside 50s, 1 goal, 1 behind

Kicked off the game with a strong mark on the lead two minutes into the match, coverting the set shot goal. She played forward for the match but still found enough of it because of the constant flow going inside 50. She was strong overhead and at ground level, ahving a few chances from long-range but just a touch outside her own range. Had a crack for four quarters and showed her strength one-on-one.

CALDER CANNONS:

#1 Maddison Albrecht
Midfielder | 160cm | 07/09/2006

Stats: 24 disposals, 1 mark, 15 tackles, 1 inside 50, 3 rebound 50s

Albrecht gets better and better by the week and as has been mentioned, with the exception of the finishing by foot, she has so many other traits that standout. Her burst speed, elite defensive pressure, massive competitiveness and work rate all shine through, as well as her ultra-clean hands at ground level. Even when hip-and-shouldered, the 160cm top-ager bounced straight back up. Has transitioned from being a small forward to a midfielder and is a standout, finding a stack of the ball all around the ground with a great tank.

#15 Shauna McElligott
Forward | 162cm | 05/03/2007

Stats: 17 disposals, 5 tackles, 3 inside 50s

Donning the long sleevs fro the match, McElligott worked up from the forwardline to apply pressure which was the point of difference in her game on the weekend. Her kicking at times was hit and miss, but she did set up a goal to second-gamer Saskia Williams with a nice kick off a standing start inside 50. Found her fair share of the ball through smarts and work rate.

#54 Charli Calleia
Forward / Midfielder | 169cm | 28/10/2008

Stats: 7 disposals, 1 mark, 4 tackles, 2 iinside 50s, 1 goal

Incredible that Calleia was only credited with seven disposals, as she is the type of player who has a high impact-per-possession gamestyle. Starting at half-forward and rotating into the midfield as usual, she got a great experience running alongside Bowering through the middle of the game. Calleia’s biggest moment came with a classy running goal off an intercept, bursting away from an opponent to slot it. She was clean at ground level, read the ball off hands well and moved through traffic seamlessly, and is yet to turn 16 which means plenty of upside.

Gippsland Power 15.7 (97) defeated GWV Rebels 4.3 (27)

GIPPSLAND POWER:

#9 Lily Milner
Forward/Midfielder | 170cm | 25/01/2008

Stats: 21 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 5 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50

Really finding her feet consistenyly at Under 18s level now, the Under 16s Vic Country representative was impressice once again. Racking up another 20-plus disposals and getting involved between midfield and attack, Milner has nice skills and is a distributor going inside 50 to set up score assists as well as hitting the scoreboard herself. Though not kicking a goal, she almost kicked a ripper, but it just fell short and Sowden marked to finish it off.

#10 Grace Dillow
Forward/Midfielder | 165cm | 03/06/2008

Stats: 15 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles, 4 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s, 1 goal

Another promising Under 16s talent who is incredibly in her second season. She cracks in but also has a nice touch of class and finishing ability on the outside. She was at full-forward midway through the second term when she lead out and clunked a great grab, then went back and converted the set shot. Clean at ground level with a nice burst from the stoppage, Dillow is defensively strong and has an all-round, well-balanced game.

#15 Jasmine Sowden
Midfielder/Forward | 164cm | 17/12/2006

Stats: 19 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle, 5 inside 50s, 1 goal

Bounced back from a less efficient game last week to get back to the high hurt factor that she is known for. Setting up a couple of goals and kicking one herself, Sowden played her role throough midfield and spent a great deal of time forward too. Her release by hand was impressive, but her pinpoint kick across her body – one of the hardest kicks to do to hit Mia Smith-Clark leading out inside 50 in the second term was outstanding.

#16 Ash Centra
Midfielder/Forward | 174cm | 02/06/2006

Stats: 23 disposals, 2 marks, 6 tackles, 1 hitout, 3 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s, 2 goals, 1 behind

There’s not much left to say about Centra who continues to just do her thing each and every week. Kicked a couple of goals back-to-back in the last term and almost converted a third before it went to the right. She sliced through traffic like a warm knife in butter and rarely wasted a disposal. Her defensive pressure was up in the match, laying six tackles for the game.

#19 Ella Stoddart
Forward | 173cm | 30/01/2007

Stats: 12 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles, 4 inside 50s, 3 goals, 1 behind

Has found a nice home in attack after being a consistent rebound defender prior. She nailed two goals from marks and set shots at either end of the game, and also had a freebie when Jovie Skewes-Clinton had a brain fade to literally throw the ball across the goalline. Stoddart worked hard inside 50 and even pushed up the ground, having Lang for company at times, but produced a fantastic run-down tackle midway through the third quarter as a defensive highlight.

#22 Acacia Sutton
Forward | 164cm | 20/06/2007

Stats: 17 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 3 inside 50s, 2 goals

Sutton looked dangerous and produced her most complete game of the year with two goals from 17 touches and four marks. Her first major came from a clever snap nine minutes into the match, while her next one came on the run late in the third quarter. She was clean and evasive in the forward half, attacking it hard and providing a leading option inside 50.

GWV REBELS:

#1 Isabella Davies
Defender/Midfielder | 160cm | 29/10/2006

Stats: 28 disposals, 7 marks, 3 tackles, 4 inside 50s, 3 rebound 50s

Hardly plays a bad game and you know exactly what you’re going to get from Davies who rotated back into defence after stating on-ball. She generally used the ball well and was very strong in the air, with the GWV top-ager one of the strongest aerial presences for a 160cm prospect. Standing up under pressure, she has the smarts to make good decisions, and was just solid all game to be the Rebels’ best across four quarters.

#7 Maggie Johnstone
Midfielder/Forward | 170cm | 06/06/2007

Stats: 17 disposals, 1 mark, 6 tackles, 4 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50, 1 goal, 2 behinds

Building her midfield craft in the side, the bottom-ager continued her upwards trajectory to catch the eye with her work in the forward half. She has the smarts and that touch of class, though could have kicked three or four in the first half alone. Her sole major came from a snap seven minutes into the second term, and what stood out was her proactive nature running off half-forward into the middle. She set up the last goal of the day to Lang with a kick inside 50 and held her own through midfield as well.

#15 Millie Lang
Defender/Forward | 177cm | 06/11/2006

Stats: 16 disposals, 7 tackles, 1 inside 50, 3 rebound 50s, 1 goal

Had a different role from the midway point of the third term when the usual intercept defender was thrown forward. Never kicking a goal before in Rebels colours, Lang got one just in time before the final siren, collecting it offf the deck, sidestepping an opponent and throwing it on the left boot to sail home. She tried hard all game and though she did not take a mark, was strong with her defensive pressure and one-on-one contest work.

#23 Maddison Cotten
Forward | 167cm | 24/11/2007

Stats: 16 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle, 4 inside 50s, 1 goal

Did enough to catch the eye through the match as she looked dangerous both deep and high forward, getting involved in the distribution chain. She nailed a goal late in the third term after reading a wobbly kick inside 50, and had some nice touches between midfield and attack. An important link-up performance, Cotten produced her best performance of the season.

GEELONG FALCONS:

#6 Chloe Bryant
Midfielder | 164cm | 09/12/2006

Stats: 17 disposals, 1 mark, 2 tackles, 5 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s

The Vic Country representative was again solid across the board playing through midfield and working forward, possessing a slick sidestep and quick hands around the contest and in traffic. Her disposal and smarts are really highlighted with ball in hand, and though perhaps suited to a second possession winner or on a wing where she skills and athleticism can really flourish, she has shown she can play inside or outside.

#7 Sara Howley
Midfielder | 173cm | 29/01/2006

Stats: 26 disposals, 3 marks, 6 tackles, 3 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s, 1 behind

Another impressive game from the potential top 10 prospect who found plenty of the ball and ran hard all day. Her defensive pressure and two-way running was particularly a highlight as her offensive running and ability to generate scores from her disposal are usually her strengths. To be able to display both sides of her ability is a huge positive, and generally each of her touches were effective, always looking to breakaway. Though sometimes caught, she is quick by hand and even produced a nice fend-off on Gregor in the third term after being caught holding the ball in the second quarter.

#8 Mekah Morrissy
Wing | 159cm | 16/01/2006

Stats: 15 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 4 inside 50s, 2 goals

An impressive winger’s game from the skipper who just keeps on doing her thing, not only getting into ball-winning positions, but pushing hard forward to impact the scoreboard. Her first goal came midway through the opening term where she did not even need to break stride when marking inside 50, sidestepping and opponent and producing a cool finish. Her second was the icing on the cake in a similar style, running hard inside 50 to mark Howley’s kick deep and strolled into goal for the final major of the match. Doesn’t always win a stack of it – her 40-disposal effort in the wet withstanding – but is highly effective with ball in hand.

#27 Seisia White
Forward/Midfielder | 164cm | 07/10/2006

Stats: 13 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 4 goals, 2 behinds

Speaking of players who have a high impact-per-possession game, White is just that. She was a standout in the match, hardly making a mistake, kicking four goals from six scoring shots and setting up a couple of other goals in the process. She was deadly with her work and kicking them from everywhere even if she was off balance, and her set shots were also reliable. Could hacev had a couple more, but as a whole, she camme up big with a dominant effort up forward.

#32 Rebecca Clottey
Forward | 168cm | 05/05/2006

Stats: 14 disposals, 1 mark, 5 tackles, 2 inside 50s, 1 behind

Clottey will always bring the tackling pressure around the ball and that is exactly what she did. Early on in the game she produced a run-down tackle on the wing, won a free kick and hit-up White inside 50 leading to a goal. She then worked up the ground as far as half-back to get involved, showing a great work rate to get involved. Every now and again she would burst onto the sccene and use her speed to breakthrough tackles or draw opponents, with eye-catching second and third efforts.

Midfielder/Forward | 167cm | 22/12/2007

Stats: 22 disposals, 3 marks, 4 tackles, 3 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50

Worked in tandem with Georgia Tyrrell getting her hands dirty in the middle as the pair shared in 47 disposals. Her clearance work was strong and she provided an aerial presence when forwaerd, also winning a free late in the game for a fantastic tackle. She has has bigger games, but played her role and did well rotating between midfield and attack.

#2 Olivia Lacy
Midfielder/Defender | 167cm | 15/06/2006

Stats: 12 disposals, 5 marks, 8 tackles, 4 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s

The bottom-ager started on-ball and though not a huge contested ball-winner, still worked hard around the ground. Her best position seems to be in the back half where she has the freedom to read the ball coming in, intercepting well and using her football skills to impact the game. Generally a good kick of the ball and makes smart decisions. An outside-leaning player but promising for next year.

Crashed and bashed her way through her return game and had a big first term before being a little quieter after that. She was often immediately set upon at stoppages to limit her influence, though her strength around the ball was tough to quell. She threw herself at any looseballs she could and took a couple of marks inside 50 with set shots from 40m missing one before nailing her second. Helped out in the back 50 as well and was around the action frequently.

#13 Jemmika Douglas
Defender/Midfielder | 166cm | 20/02/2006

Stats: 20 disposals, 3 marks, 11 tackles, 4 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s

Starting in defence, Douglas moved on-ball in the third term before going back into defence for the last, applying elite defensive work in all thirds of the ground. Though at times under pressure she can thump the ball on the boot, when she is up and going, has that touch of class, and her speed-power combination makes her hard to stop. She is strong in tackles, works well through traffic and is a high-risk, high-reward operator with her disposals looking to go route one down the middle.

#14 Lacey Nihill
Midfielder | 173cm | 01/05/2008

Stats: 9 disposals, 1 mark, 3 tackles, 1 inside 50, 2 rebound 50s

While the Under 16 talent might not have won a heap of the ball, each time she did, you took note. Nihill uses the ball well with supreme skills and hard running, while having the athleticism to match. A highlight play was gathering it under pressure, sidestepped her way out of traffic and while still under duress having the composure to nail the pass going forward. When she begins finding more of the ball, watch out because she doesn’t waste it.

#25 Ava Bibby
Key Forward | 184cm | 09/05/2007

Stats: 7 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle, 1 inside 50, 5 goals

An absolute out-of-the-box performance from Bibby who last kicked goals – two – in her first game of the season. She made the most of her seven disposals with five majors , all of which came after quarter time. Three came from marks and set shots, another marking on the run and then her final one from a free kick and set shot. Never looking like missing, Bibby was ultra-reliable with her routine and it will be fascinating to see if this sparks a purple patch in the last couple of games.

Ruck/Forward | 179cm | 14/10/2006

Stats: 13 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle, 25 hitouts, 5 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50, 1 goal

Has enjoyed a really strong second half of the season in particular, learning plenty from stepping up at Vic Country. Her strength and positioning in the ruck was very good once again, and she showed she moves well at ground level, snapping a clever goal in the second term. She was the dominant ruck on the ground, and still found the ball outside the stoppages which is important for a player in her position.

#45 Lexi Gregor
Key Utility | 180cm | 07/04/2006

Stats: 12 disposals, 5 marks, 8 tackles, 3 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s, 1 behind

Such a hard-working key position player who started forward but worked her way as far as defence to assist. Her hands are brilliant but her defensive pressure and groundlevel work is what has really upped of late. She is not afraid to get involved outside the marking contest and is a great bail out kick target because of her safe hands and size.
