Stats Leaders: 2024 Coates Talent League H&A
A HOST of top talent features atop the statistical leaderboards at the close of the Coates Talent League home-and-away season. Among the most impressive feats was Murray Bushrangers having three players feature in the top five goalkickers, including competition leader Joshua Murphy.
The power forward booted a high of 30 goals from 10 games, averaging an even three per outing. Teammates Joe Berry (27) and Matt Whitlock (26) joined him in an even top five, though mid-season draftee Will McLachlan had the best goal average with 4.3 (26 total) from six appearances.
Western Jets were also well represented atop the charts. Bottom-age Collingwood father-son prospect Thomas McGuane led the league for total disposals and handballs, while Xavier Kardachi was the top tackler. He also finished second for total disposals, kicks, and inside 50s from 15 consistent games.
It was no surprise to see pick one contender Jagga Smith average the most touches of anyone, going at a rate of 35.3. He also had the most handballs per game (16.4). Smith’s lowest disposal tally in nine games was 28, while he got as high as 50 in Round 9, and over 40 twice more.
Among the others to feature across multiple categories was Bendigo Pioneers utility Lachlan Hogan. Most often posted down back with stints in midfield, he landed in the top fives for total disposals, kicks, and rebound 50s having given everything across his 13 outings.
The minimum games requirement of three allowed some Northern Academy players to land in the top fives on averages. Bottom-age Lions Academy star Daniel Annable was the standout with high marks for disposals, handballs, and tackles. He’s one to watch for next year.
