2024 AFLW Draft review: Adelaide

ADELAIDE fans would be over the moon with its small, but impactful haul at the 2024 AFL Women’s Draft. Collecting two locals for under value, the Crows will remain a premiership threat with a couple of senior experienced National Academy members to top up their already enviable depth.

DRAFT HAUL

National Draft:

13. India Rasheed
44. Georgia McKee

While Adelaide did take the minimum selections required in the 2024 AFL Women’s Draft, the Crows ensured maximum impact, with a couple of show-stopping talents. Sturt midfielder-forward India Rasheed was tipped to go as high as top five in the AFLW Draft, but once she got past the Swans – who were most keen – the Crows loomed as the main destination.

They got their local star, and then doubled up with another National Academy member in Georgia McKee, with the damaging small forward one with ridiculous goal sense and dual-sidedness. While not having the same impact returning from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) that she had prior, once the Central District star can build up her conditioning in an elite level, she could be as good as a top 10 pick.

Essentially, if the Crows can get the most out of their selections, they have picked up two top 10 talents for a later first round and mid third round selection. While no doubt the relief of remaining in the home state is a big one, Adelaide ensured it could remain ahead of main rival Port thanks to a trade and pick up Power-supporting Rasheed, before recruiting lifelong Crows supporter McKee.

In terms of impact in 2025, Rasheed is definitely the most likely to get early games, with the Sturt young gun having already played at senior SANFLW level for three seasons, and standing up in big moments. She will likely start as a forward target inside 50 – or at that high-forward position – before gaining midfield minutes for a point of difference in an already strong Crows midfield.

McKee’s main focus will be on getting back to full fitness and at her best, which being in an elite environment will assist with that. Once she cracks in, expect her to be an absolute menace around goals that will give opposition defenders nightmares. While the Crows already have a potent forwardline, adding Rasheed and McKee to that mix further deepens that depth.
