SPECTATORS will get an early look at the eight SANFL Women’s sides ahead of the season kick-off date with two weeks of trial matches locked in. Six of the eight sides have been confirmed to play across both days of February 22 and March 1, with Glenelg and Norwood just playing week one.
All matches across the two rounds – with a break in between – will take place at either midday or 12:30pm, scheduled across five different venues. West Adelaide will host Glenelg and Central District at Hisense Stadium, with reigning premiers South Adelaide also playing host at the newly-named Magain Stadium (Noarlunga, previously Flinders University Stadium) against Sturt and Woodville-West Torrens.
Norwood’s sole match will come back at Elizabeth when they take on the Dogs in a rematch of last year’s elimination final, while the Eagles lock horns with North Adelaide at Eastern Parade Reserve on February 22 as well. Sturt plays its second match at the Summit, Mount Barker welcoming the Roosters for the battle between two sides hoping to return to finals.
Round 1 of the official premiership season kicks off on Saturday, March 15, with the Eagles and Sturt playing at Eastern Parade Reserve, while the SANFLW Grand Final rematch between the Panthers and Redlegs is a twilight fixture down south. The following day the Dogs and Bays go head-to-head up north, while the Bloods remain at Hisense Stadium when they welcome North Adelaide on Sunday afternoon.
The season sees the first four rounds take place as per normal before a league-wide by for AFL Gather Round between April 10-13. The only other bye will happen on the weekend of May 3, when the SANFLW representative side hosts the WAFLW side for the second clash between the two state leagues.
