2025 CTL Under 16 Metro Girls carnival wrap

EASTERN Ranges impressive talent depth looks set to stretch on for a number of years yet, with some huge wins at the Coates Talent League Girls Under 16s carnival. The Ranges and Calder Cannons went undefeated throughout the tournament, while Northern Knights and Oakleigh Chargers split their results. Sandringham Dragons and Western Jets went down in both games to round out the other teams.

CALDER CANNONS

Calder flexed its muscles during the carnival, picking up a couple of really strong wins. The Cannons were spearheaded by talented forward Holly Clough who slammed home nine goals across the two games and was a star for the side. The remaining nine goals all came from individual goalkickers, while the likes of Coco Balmain, Tahnee Davis and Tilda Sinclair were all named in the best for both matches.

RESULTS:

defeated Northern Knights by 32 points
defeated Sandringham Dragons by 39 points

EASTERN RANGES:

The two-time recent Under 18s grand finalist looks set to enjoy plenty of wins for the next few years, with its Under 16s sides putting a couple of teams to the sword. The Ranges won by an average of 63 points and that included a wet weather victory against the Chargers. Different goalkickers hit the scoreboard across the different games with Kodie Daniels and Akia-Marie Lake booting four in the win over Western, while Alira Barnard Rossely was the pick of the Ranges from the matches.

defeated Oakleigh Chargers by 47 points

NORTHERN KNIGHTS

Northern finished the two games with a win and a loss, bouncing back from defeat against Calder to produce a 10-goal victory over Western. Gypsy Buckland kicked three in the win to be her side’s sole multiple goalscorer, while Milla Giardina and Dakota Edmonds were named among the best from the two matches.

defeated Western Jets by 61 points

OAKLEIGH CHARGERS

The reigning back-to-back Under 18s premiers split their results from a win against Sandringham before going down to Eastern. A familiar surname in Scarlett Bown – sister of National Academy member Chloe – starred by being named best afield across both matches, while Abigail D’Intini and Julia Hipwell kicked two majors apiece in the carnival.

lost to Eastern Ranges by 47 points

SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS

Sandringham had a competitive hitout against local rivals Oakleigh Chargers before going down to Calder Cannons in the second match by 39 points. School Sport Australia 15 and Under All-Australian Maya Duane booted four goals across the two games with Sarita Atluri finishing with a couple. Sophie Nilsson also stood out for the Dragons in defeat.

WESTERN JETS

It was a learning curve for the Jets in the carnival, going up against two strong sides in the Ranges and Knights. Though they only kicked the one goal – to Kai Malou – they would have taken plenty away for the future as they develop. Charli Parsons Jones and Alana D’Ambrosio were named best for the Jets in game two.
