Star prospects shoot atop RMC Medal standings

RESPECTIVE best on ground performances have seen star AFL Draft prospects Willem Duursma and Daniel Annable move level atop the Rookie Me Central Medal leaderboard. Both players added a maximum three votes to their tallies in Round 7 to each boast eight overall in season 2025.

Duursma notched his second set of three votes as he led all-comers with 31 disposals, seven clearances and a goal in Gippsland Power’s win over Sandringham. Meanwhile, Annable followed suit on Sunday with 30 touches and 10 clearances as the Lions Academy went down to Oakleigh Chargers.
Another likely first round talent and future Allies teammate of Annable, Beau Addinsall, also shot up the standings. The prolific midfielder racked up 28 disposals and seven clearances as the Suns Academy kicked away from Northern to end its Coates Talent League stint with a perfect 4-0 record.
Addinsall was beaten to the three votes in that game by Knights captain Sebastian Murphy, who posted a round-high 36 disposals in the loss. He now joins four other players tied for seventh place with six votes, while Addinsall and four others occupy an extended podium with seven votes for equal-third.
Only one more player among the top 10 vote-getters to date polled in Round 7. Namely, it was Greater Western Victoria (GWV) Rebels midfielder Talor Byrne. He settled for two votes behind Player of the Week Cody Walker, who inspired Bendigo to an epic come-from-behind victory in Swan Hill.
Walker’s monster 31 disposals, 10 marks, eight tackles, five clearances, seven inside 50s, five rebound 50s, and three goals ensured it would only be four players who earned best afield honours in defeats this week. Jesse Mellor did exactly that with five goals from 20 touches in Geelong’s loss to Tasmania.
Another to do so, along with Annable and Murphy, was Calder Cannons co-captain Jackson Barber. The Vic Metro squad inclusion was a brick wall in defence, clunking 10 marks with many of them being intercepts. Even those efforts weren’t enough to stop Dandenong getting up by 38 points.
