The Next 10: June 2025 Power Rankings

WITH 20 prospects brought to the fore in our June Power Rankings, plenty of questions flooded in about those who missed out. From players who dropped out of our May rankings, to strong National Championships performers and club-tied talent, we highlight the next 10 on our list.

>> TOP 20: June 2025 Power Rankings

Lachlan Carmichael (Swans Academy/Allies)
Defender | 183cm | 27/08/2007

One of only a few Allies representatives who cracked the squad last year as a bottom-ager, Carmichael was MVP of a talented Swans Under 16 crop in 2023. He is often used as a prime distributor down back but is also capable of winning his own ball, especially on the intercept with strong overhead marking. His aggressive overlap runs and creativity are among the other traits which have him in top 25 contention.

Noah Chamberlain (Swans Academy/Allies)
Tall Forward/Wing | 192cm | 21/03/2007

On a pure traits basis, Chamberlain is right up there with the best in the crop. He was touted as a potential top 10 player heading into the season but is yet to find top form. Like Carmichael, he represented the Allies last year and is a leader among the strong Swans group. Chamberlain’s versatility is an asset as he attacks the aerial ball hard, but also has terrific foot skills and is athletic. He seems a little down on confidence but showed nice signs once moved up to the wing in the Allies’ opening game.

Koby Coulson (Suns Academy/Allies)
Midfielder | 180cm | 31/07/2007

Few others show the same endeavour and effort as Coulson, who has emerged as a gettable target for clubs given the Suns’ wealth of Academy options. He consistently racks up the ball in midfield, often seen burrowing under packs and emerging to flick the ball out to teammates. While a little scrappy in the way of ball use at times, he works incredibly hard and every team needs a midfielder who can go both ways. He also has VFL experience with four appearances over the last two years.

Sam Cumming (North Adelaide/South Australia)
Midfielder/Forward | 186cm | 27/07/2007

Cumming earned rave reviews during preseason and has long been a dominant player at SANFL Under 18 level, taking out last year’s MVP award. He’s a competitor capable of racking up bulk possessions through midfield, but looks likely to make the elite grade as a forward. Cumming’s work rate is complimented by fast feet and power around the contest, and he’s also capable of hitting the scoreboard. Ball use under pressure is the only qualm, but he’s right in the top 25 mix.

Cody Curtin (Claremont/Western Australia)
Key Forward/Ruck | 200cm | 18/05/2007

A member of our initial top 20, Curtin has long been on the radar – especially following elder brother Dan’s ascent to AFL level. Cody is a bigger, more physical prospect at 200cm but similarly can play at either end of the ground. Since making his move to attack more permanent, Curtin has dominated his Colts peers with bags of goals and is as competitive as key position players come in the air. Speed and running power are concerns which drop him down the order for now, but he is capable of going big.

Harry Dean (Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country)
Tall Defender | 193cm | 13/11/2007

A prospect quickly establishing himself as the best key defender in the draft, clubs will be disappointed to note Dean is tied to Carlton via father-son eligibility. The 193cm marking machine makes early reads on the play and has the speed to act on them, rising as a dangerous intercepting threat. He is a rangy type who takes the ball cleanly at the top of his reach and uses it neatly, rounding out attributes which form the hallmarks of a star tall defender. In this form, he’ll feature in next month’s top 20.

Zac McCarthy (Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro)
Key Forward/Ruck | 198cm | 27/10/2007

Another club-tied prospect in the mix, McCarthy is part of Collingwood’s Next Generation Academy. He acts as fold for both primary ruck Cooper Duff-Tytler and spearhead key forward Archie Ludowyke in the Vic Metro side, and while he arguably fares better in the ruck, will likely turn out as a key forward. McCarthy covers the ground well and has terrific skills for a player his size, also capable of plucking the ball at high points with his rangy frame. Solid representative performances will go a long way.

Taj Murray (North Adelaide/Allies)
Key Forward/Ruck | 199cm | 02/05/2007

Murray may well be the Northern Territory’s best prospect for some time, looming as a rare genuine key position player from the Top End. He is currently boarding in South Australia where he represents North Adelaide, which would have made his four-goal haul against the Croweaters all the more sweet. Murray is a super athlete who jumps out of the ground, but still has some size to add to his frame. Despite that, he competes hard when following up in the ruck and offers a mobile aerial asset up forward.

Jevan Phillipou (Eagles/South Australia)
Midfielder/Forward | 183cm | 30/03/2007

Somewhat out of sight and out of mind given he is currently sidelined with a broken arm, Phillipou was in our top 20 list for May. The explosive midfielder-forward has plenty of talent and promising athletic upside, much like brother Mattaes showed in his draft year. Jevan is high on confidence in his ability and made a strong start to the season as Woodville-West Torrens’ Under 18 captain, so will be keen to recapture the magic once he gets back out there in the back-end of the year.

Wesley Walley (Subiaco/Western Australia)
Forward | 184cm | 29/11/2007

One of several prospects tied to West Coast this year, Walley is among the most exciting. While down on numbers in representative gear, the livewire forward has shown flashes of brilliance with his defensive pressure, speed, and aerial ability. He’s only lightly framed but backs his best traits against all-comers, so with more consistency there’s no reason why his talent can’t elevate him in a shallow draft pool.
