WAFL Colts: Top two take percentage boosts

THE TWO leading WAFL Colts sides bolstered their standing atop the ladder with convincing victories in Round 11. Namely, pole-sitter South Fremantle trounced the winless Peel Thunder by 67 points, while East Fremantle saluted over Swan Districts to the tune of an even 11 goals.

Both sides now sit pretty at 7-2, one game ahead of the third placed West Perth and with a handy percentage buffer. The Falcons beat reigning premier Claremont to remain clear of Subiaco, who edged past East Perth to move a step ahead of the Tigers, Perth, and Swan Districts on five wins.
The Sharks’ fourth consecutive win came courtesy of an eight-goal to one opening half. Swan Districts also failed to register a major in the first and last quarters, as Sharks Kindreal Hooker and Kaydn Wilson matched their total score with three majors apiece. Hooker also posted two behinds.
Fremantle father-son prospect Oliver McManus was outstanding with 31 disposals and a goal in the win. Teammate Kaiden Summerell also racked up 31 touches, while Liam Hrabar (15 disposals, seven tackles) was the Swans’ best, as their two-game winning streak was snapped.
Meanwhile down in Mandurah, South Fremantle leaked just a single goal to Peel Thunder en route its comprehensive 10.16 (76) to 1.3 (9) victory. The Bulldogs raced away with five unanswered majors in the opening quarter and amassed 61 forward 50 entries to the hosts’ 16 in a total domination.
Dockers Next Generation Academy member Ryda Luke made a positive return from injury, booting 2.6 from 14 disposals and five marks. He was joined by state Under 18 train-ons Byron Foster (25 disposals, eight marks, 22 hitouts) and Heath Wilson (eight disposals, four tackles) in the big win.
On top of their contributions, Millar Rank (19 disposals, three goals) was prominent and Aston Clissold led all comers with 27 touches. Peel’s Drew Clarke was not far behind with 25 and 11 tackles, though McKenna Pringle was named the Thunder’s best. They fielded three state squad members.
West Perth’s 18-point road win over Claremont came despite the Tigers’ four-goal final quarter, which saw them more than double their score. They still fell short of the Falcons, who led at every break and by and unassailable 27 points come three-quarter time at Claremont Oval.
Falcon Cooper Bewick starred with 26 touches and nine inside 50s, while state 18s defender Oscar Willis topped Claremont’s disposal charts with 21. Bottom-age tall forwards Harvey Spawton-Guy and Charlie Watson booted two goals apiece for the respective sides to push for state selection.
The final game of Round 11 saw Subiaco do enough to beat East Perth by 10 points. While inaccurate at times, the Lions overcame a slow start at Leederville Oval to get ahead at the main break and remain there taking home a third victory on the bounce.
Lucas Santich accumulated 35 disposals and snared a goal in the win, with Royal Jake Caton finishing as the next most prolific player (24 disposals). East Perth was well served by bottom-age duo Garrison Kenh and Lachlan McGlade, who are right in the state 18s mix – the latter as a train-on.
