2025 AFL Sydney Player Analysis: Brea Trevitt (Parramatta Goannas)

A SHINING light in a tough season, Parramatta Goannas’ Brea Trevitt is standing out for the AFL Sydney Women’s Premier Division side and was again her team’s best in defeat to St George Dragons. Trevitt is one of a number of Giants Academy bottom-agers in the Goannas’ outfit, and will be looking to finish the rest of the season off strong ahead of her top-age campaign in 2026.

Trevitt represented the Giants at the AFLW Under 16 National Development Championships in 2024, and has been running around through the middle for Parramatta’s senior side this season. Though the Goannas only have the one win to-date, the youth coming through the club – headlined by the natural ball-winner and tenacious tackler – is a positive.

INTRODUCTION

Brea Trevitt has some draftable qualities and also areas to further work on, of which both elements were in full display throughout the match. What she does incredibly well compared to others is being a one-touch player and rarely wastes a moment at ground level. Additionally, she also has great stoppage IG and some explosive speed which all adds up to being a great midfielder. in the match she ran at a lower efficiency – but there will be a reason for that – and gave away five free kicks, but on several instances was incredibly unlucky to do so.

STRENGTHS

Clean hands

There were many times within the match where Trevitt was able to pick up the ball one take without so much as a fumble. Even under pressure or in congestion, she was able to both win the ball and execute by hand very quickly, or explode away and get boot to ball. There was quite literally only one instance where Trevitt had a slight fumble, and she won a free kick for an opponent grabbing her because of it. A really big strength of hers.

Stoppage IQ

Her understanding of play through the stoppage also stood out, starting at opening centre bounces and then working back to help out from defence and try and drive the ball forward for her side. She racked up nine clearances which was four more than any other player in the match. Furthermore what really stood out was when she won the clearance, it was not often just dumping it on the boot, but using her pace to burn through traffic and try and get some valuable metres gained.

Explosive pace

Everyone enjoys watching a player back themselves and take risks, and sure it occasionally got Trevitt caught or she would be forced into rushing the disposal, but on quite a few occasions she would tuck the ball under the arm, burst away and leave her opponent behind. She was not afraid to implement a fend-off as well which was a nice touch from such a young player at senior level.

Defensive pressure

Trevitt’s tackling pressure, particularly around the source really ensured repeat stoppages and kept the opposition on its toes. Given her one touch nature, the fact the Dragons had to worry about her both being quick to dispose of it, and quick to lay a tackle on them, no doubt would have been in the back of their mind. While most of her pressure came close to the stoppages, she did laid a great goal-saving tackle midway through the third term which allowed her teammates to clear.

IMPROVEMENTS

Kicking at speed

Looking at her efficiency, it might read as being poor, however it does not tell the full story. Her kicking technique is actually very sound, but it is when at speed she mostly has to stretch out on the kick and rushes the connection point which results in a turnover. With time to assess and look up, Trevitt got the ball spin right and making a good decision, but it is about that touch more composure with ball in ahnd when on the move.

Follow-up work

Her defensive pressure is great as noted above, but one element that could further enhance her game is potentially pushing forward after disposing of a kick to add an extra number to the contest and win it back. When the ball is in motion at speed and she can go for one-twos or give-and-go’s she shows just that, it was more when at the end of a chain kicking forward, there were a couple of times where there was the instant to potentially get to the next contest to win it and she was stationary.

CLOSING THOUGHTS …

Brea Trevitt is a player who has some great development left in her. Offensively she takes the game on and can be suited both in the middle (thanks to her stoppage craft) or even off half-back with her run and carry. She moves through traffic very well and is not afraid to get her hands dirty. If she can further tidy up her kicking at speed and work her way to impact more contests, she can round out her game even further. But Trevitt has been one of a number of promising young players in the Goannas lineup this season.
