In The Mix: 2025 AFLW Draft Power Rankings

OUR SECOND instalment of our 2025 AFLW Draft Power Rankings dropped yesterday when 30 players named for the July edition. Given the evenness of the draft crop, there were a number of players who were right in the mix to make the list. We run through 12 names on the cusp.

Lily Baxter (South Adelaide/South Australia)
Wing/Forward | 173cm | 04/01/2007

The South Adelaide premiership player started her SANFLW career as a forward, but in a bid to improve the defensive elements in her game, made a switch to the wing after playing a game there late in the 2023 season. Her two-way running has noticeably improved and while her groundballs are an improvement, once she has it, is one of the better ball users and decision makers in the AFLW Draft crop. Was impressive on the weekend for the Panthers and will be a key player in their premiership push.

Alicia Blizard (East Fremantle/Western Australia)
Tall Forward | 174cm | 15/11/2007

Blizard is one of those tall forwards who operates better as a small forward with great athleticism and elite defensive pressure. She can explode away from opponents and kick some ripping goals for both East Fremantle and Western Australia. Blizard’s main improvement area is her marking, though aside from that, she does a lot right and her defensive pressure is a nice point of difference in her game. Has terrific upside as well.

Nalu Brothwell (Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country)
Tall Forward | 174cm | 22/10/2007

The twin sister to Mizuki (who was #23 in the Power Rankings) was ultra-close to joining her in the last couple of spots. Her athletic and competitive nature and ability to make her teammates better forward of centre all bodes well for the future. Has good hands and nice smarts forward of centre, while working hard up the ground to win the ball between the arcs as well. Plenty of upside left in her as well, so one to watch across the course of the season.

Tessa Davis (Glenelg/South Australia)
Tall Defender | 175cm | 23/04/2007

One of the surprise packets of the year, the former high-level cricketer made her mark for the Bays at SANFLW level, taking kickouts and being the last line in defence. Her competitiveness overhead and at ground level, as well as her reliable kick helped her fill out the role well, and that form transitioned to the national stage for South Australia. Davis is one of the more consistent defensive options this year and bears similar traits to Evie Cowcher, albeit with less exposure.

Lucy Greenwood (East Perth/Western Australia)
Forward/Midfielder | 163cm | 23/03/2007

An exiting high-upside player, Greenwood has plenty of traits to like in her game. While not a massive accumulator like some others, the East Perth small is a high impact-per-possession type who influences games through both her goal sense, kicking and vision. Lifting that production rate will help the West Australian become even more damaging, but Greenwood can also push up to a wing or play on-ball too.

Stella Huxtable (Geelong Falcons/Vic Country)
Midfielder/Forward | 172cm | 22/12/2007

Another one who was right in the mix for the last couple of spots in the Power Rankings, Huxtable is a big-bodied inside midfielder who can also go forward and hit the scoreboard. The Geelong Falcons vice-captain is a renowned clearance player and exceptionally good overhead. Huxtable’s knocks are her explosiveness out of contests and polish on her kicks, but what she offers is consistent effort, the smarts to extract the ball and an ability to get forward and impact.

Maya Louvel-Finn (East Fremantle/Western Australia)
Defender | 169cm | 20/03/2007

The East Fremantle defender is an athletic sort who can play on a range of talls and smalls in the back 50. While often playing negating roles in the past, she has been able to showcase those crucial athletic traits in 2025, providing key rebound in transition at WAFL Women’s level. Louvel-Finn is not necessarily a massive ball-winner, but her 13 touches fell like 20 at times, and she can hit targets consistently out of the back 50. Still tidying up her disposal on the run, but she has a lot of traits to like in her game.

Alex McBride-Loane (Western Jets/Vic Metro)
Tall Defender | 174cm | 03/04/2007

Always thereabouts in the draft conversation, McBride-Loane has settled into her preferred intercepting role in defence after pinch-hitting as a ruck in past seasons. While the Jets tall does have a massive vertical leap, she is also too undersized to play that role at the top level. Instead, her leap comes in handy when competing in the back half of the ground. Able to negate an opponent and still provide run and carry out of defence, McBride-Loane looms as that third tall who can peel off and influence offensively at the next level.

Renee Morgan (South Fremantle/Western Australia)
Midfielder | 169cm | 04/05/2007

The hard-at-it midfielder has a great balance of inside and outside traits, spending the bulk of her time on-ball, but spreads well to the outside. Morgan’s knock is her speed as she lacks that explosiveness out of contests, but her disposal is top notch, she can use both side of her body and her game awarenss is fantastic. In preseason WA Talent Manager Trent Cooper said Morgan was “unlucky” not to make the National Academy, and that’s fair as aside from the speed, she has plenty going for her as a player and she impacts just about every week for the Bulldogs.

Zara Neuwirth (Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro)
Key Defender | 183cm | 06/02/2007

Long been touted as the athletic key defender to watch in the 2025 AFLW Draft, Neuwirth remains a point of difference compared to a lot of other players. She stands at 183cm which is genuine key position height, and has rare athleticism for a prospect of that size. While mostly utilised in lockdown or negating roles, there have been a few signs this season that Neuwirth can win more of the ball and have an offensive impact as well. A high-upside prospect who can be good long-term value.

Jovie Skewes-Clinton (GWV Rebels/Vic Country)
Tall Utility | 176cm | 15/11/2007

If you’re after a player who just does everything right and can impact in a short space of time, then Skewes-Clinton might be your player. The GWV Rebels utility has played at both ends, using her smarts and skills to save the day up one end, then kick some miraculous goals up the other. She does not win a heap of the ball, but rarely wastes a touch and can easily walk away with three or four goals in a half.

Isla Wiencke (Giants Academy/NSW-ACT)
Midfielder/Forward | 174cm | 30/03/2007

A contested beast, just about all of her touches come around the coalface or under pressure and she uses her strong frame to bullock her way out of trouble. A booming kick and smart enough to get her hands free when tackled, Wiencke is another member of the National Academy. GWS Giants Academy’s top prospect this year, she can improve her outside game but has elite inside traits.
