2026 AFLW Draft Q&A: Scarlet Gallo

SUBIACO top-ager Scarlet Gallo got a taste for WAFL Women’s League action last season when she played six matches at the top West Australian flight, while also building her game through the Rogers Cup (10 matches). The forward/midfielder was elevated into the WA summer squad leading into 2026, and is hoping to go to another level this season.

We spoke to Gallo at the recent WAFLW Preseason Testing Day about her footy journey, game and inspirations along the way.

Q: Scarlet, tell us a bit about your footy journey?

SG: “I started playing footy when I was really young at community level. Was with the girls for two years, then went and played with the boys for two years, then back with the girls, and then I got picked up by Subi two years ago. Trained there, played there and had my League debut last year in 2025, and then now just playing state footy.”

Q: What’s your favourite position?

SG: “At the moment I play a bit of half-forward so that’s pretty good, and I’ve always loved to get in the midfield when I can.”

Q: What are some strengths in your game?

SG: “My speed, definitely, and probably my footy IQ.”

Q: What about some improvements you’re looking to make?

SG: “I definitely want to work on my fundamental skills and just nailing targets every time.”

Q: Which AFLW club do you support?

SG: “Eagles.”

Q: In terms of a player you look up to the top level?

SG: “Probably Mon Conti, similar gamestyle and she’s a good player.”

Q: Who’s had the most individual influence on your career?

SG: “Charlie Thomas. She’s around the club at Subi and she’s always there for a chat if I need.”

Q: How do you think Subi will fare this year?

SG: “I reckon we’re looking pretty strong, we’ve got a really good chance and the team’s looking stronger than before.”

Q: What goals do you set for yourself?

SG: “This year I want to play as much League as possible, then get into the 18s team. Then eventually at the end of the year get drafted.”
