Nick Williams is one of the few over-age prospects who earned a State Draft Combine invite off the back of a solid 2023 campaign. The Suns Academy member played with some successful teams, first with the Academy and then with the Allies where he fronted up for all four matches. Williams filled out a tall defender role at the national carnival, averaging 10.8 disposals and four marks.

His athleticism and aerial ability were among his greatest strengths on show, with most of his disposals coming from that format. Along with his natural aerial prowess, Williams reads the play well and positions himself behind the ball to leap at the footy or drop back into the hole. His work rate allows him to get to repeat contests and impact, if not intercept.

Given his standing at 190cm and likely role as a third tall down back, Williams' production needs to lift, as does his work once the ball hits the deck. Despite his relatively low numbers in Allies colours, the Queenslander still lit up the GPS with strong running numbers, covering around 10km per game despite playing largely as the deepest defender. He could be the fifth Suns Academy member drafted this year.
