PROFILE:

On talent alone, Sophie Strong would be right up there in top 30 calculations. The fast-developing Tasmanian midfielder had a breakout bottom-age season last year, even being a late inclusion for the Under 17 Futures match. Her explosive speed out of the stoppage, overall athleticism and nice endurance base help her run out games strongly, and she is a high impact player both offensively and defensively.

Unfortunately injuries got the better of Strong in 2024, which robbed fans of seeing the young gun in full flight. Her singular full game against Queensland was terrific and though only one game back looked to be on the mend. An ankle injury the next match - after missing the bulk of the season already - ended her year meaning the lack of exposure and durability are question marks for AFLW clubs.

However as mentioned, on talent alone Strong is more than good enough to play at the top level. Her high impact, speed from the contest and defensive pressure make her an all-round player who has a touch of class. She could tidy up her composure at times, but the durability is the main question mark and with a full preseason, anything is possible for the talented Tasmanian.
