Jack Cocking is an old fashioned draft bolter, and while others might move into the pointy end of the draft during the season, Cocking was literally playing local football before making the jump to WAFL Colts level. The 18-year-old stepped into the Sharks lineup and after a slower start, got going and finished with a head full of steam to take out the WAFL Colts goalkicking award with 49 majors in 19 games - 16 more than the nearest player.
At 189cm he is a little undersized to be a primary marking forward and he is not overly quick, but does the basics right. With vice-like hands and a strong leap to pull down the grab, Cocking is a consistent goalkicker whose record is hard to deny. Going forward, particularly at his size, diversifying his game and avenues to goal will perhaps take him to the next level. Though, given his form and proven ability he should be in consideration late or as a rookie.
