SNAPSHOT: “A mobile key forward who presents full-chested at the ball and loves to crash packs.”

Once a state-level cricketer, Harvey Spawton-Guy blends the English roots on his mother’s side with football obsession from his native Victorian father. The West Perth product grew up supporting St Kilda and leans on the likes of former Falcons teammates Sam Swadling and Jacob Farrow, who were both drafted interstate.

Spawton-Guy established himself at WAFL Colts level across 17 bottom-age appearances last year, booting 26 goals. He only turned out four more times in 2026, but earned a League debut off just one Reserves outing. With nine goals in a handful of top flight games, it is fair to say he adjusted nicely to life in the state league.

The competitive key forward was also an integral member of Western Australia’s side, playing all four games for the Black Swans before returning to club level. With senior and representative form under his belt, Spawton-Guy was duly invited to participate in the recent National Draft Combine alongside six of his state teammates.

STRENGTHS:

+ Competitiveness
+ Kick penetration
+ Leading patterns
+ Mobility
+ Versatility
+ Work rate

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Physicality
- Set shot consistency
- Speed

Spawton-Guy provides a fantastic focal point in attack. He is most effective as a leading target and has worked hard on his ability to impact games more consistently up the ground. With good IQ and the work rate to match, he often gains separation from his opponent as he presents full-chested at the kicker.

Physicality is another area for improvement that Spawton-Guy has developed. While he can still refine his bodywork and contested marking craft, he has no trouble flying into packs and bringing the ball to ground. In that sense, he's a great competitor who makes his presence felt both in the air and when recovering at ground level.

While not overly quick, Spawton-Guy is a mobile tall with deceptive dexterity. He gets up the field and can score from open play, sometimes proving more reliable on the snap rather than over the mark. His follow-up work is also strong, capable of applying heavy pressure on the back of his aerial efforts.

There are elements of versatility to Spawton-Guy's game, having been swung to defence this year and spent time chopping out in the ruck. As a forward, he can either play high or deep, while his foot skills are quite sound for a player his size. Though, most notably, he can absolutely roost the ball with great penetration.

In terms of development, Spawton-Guy entered the year looking to work on his speed, endurance, and physicality. Strengthening those elements would not only help boost his craft, but also his consistency. The youngster is seeking to impact games more regularly throughout four quarters by getting up the ground with that running power.

Importantly for a forward, Spawton-Guy's scoring output is quite solid. He has comfortably averaged over a goal per game at every level and rarely goes without hitting the scoreboard. Although, he can continue to iron out some of his finishing, having left a few chances out there with an overall going rate of 24.17 this year - in the Colts, Reserves, League, and state 18s.

DRAFT RANGE: 35-60

While not in the top-end category of key position players this year, Spawton-Guy has plenty to offer. He isn’t the freakishly athletic type, instead bringing competitiveness and relentless leading patterns as a forward marking target. Recruiters will like that he has that mongrel built-in. Having already made inroads on his deficiencies, recruiters should be buoyed by the potential for further development in his game. With continual work on his athletic attributes and contested craft, he should be in the frame for a chance at the top level – most likely from the second round and beyond.
