Top prospect Bo Allan wasn't the only Peel Thunder junior able to crack the senior grades in 2024, with Joel Brown paving his own path to WAFL League level. The 194cm key defender missed out on playing in the Thunder's premiership side, but established himself with eight games in the top flight and five Reserves appearances.

Brown, who missed only one Colts game last year and was selected for WA's summer squad, was not part of the state's Under 18 squad at the National Championships. Despite that, his form throughout the WAFL season caught the eye of AFL recruiters and he duly earned an invite to the state draft combine. There, he impressed with a 6:37 2km time trial.

On top of his solid endurance base, Brown is a strongly-framed defender with handy closing speed. He can continue to work on his agility and continuing to be more expansive on the rebound, but has proven he is capable of fulfilling a role at senior level, and competing against mature opposition. He remains a smokey for the draft.
