HAWTHORN is humming along at the moment, picking up win number seven of the AFLW season yesterday after beating West Coast by 11 goals.

Reflecting on the Hawks’ season post match,’ coach Daniel Webster said that internally everyone is feeling good.

“Any time you get a win, any win’s worth its weight in gold, especially in an 11 game season,” he said.

“It was good to get just a bit more free flow football going and a bit more speed on the ball which we always like. It can be a bit tricky here, just on the skinnier ground and especially when the wind’s favouring one end, but I thought we did a pretty good job handling that.”

Despite how well the year is going for the Hawks this season, the infamous ‘f word’ – finals – has not been actively discussed in camp Hawthorn.

“We talk about where we want to go and what we want to do, but fundamentally for us, like we want to win premierships, and so to do that, you need to win games,” Webster said.

“And then, you know, the flow on effect is if you’re good enough, you’ll play finals. If you’re good enough, you’ll win finals and you go from there.”

One player to draw praise from their coach is defender Jenna Richardson.

“Jenna’s been fantastic all season for us,” Webster said.

“Jenna’s positioning has gotten better and better and understanding how we want to work as a unit and how we can dictate space a little bit to be a bit more effective to try and get some more intercepts and get some flow off the back of that.”

Webster also said that the balance between defence and attack is “something we’re always trying to work on,” but did agree that it has worked for him and his side this season.

“I’ve said before that our system’s built on both and they work together in how we do it,” Webster said. “The better we defend, the easier it is we can attack, and the better we attack, the easier it is we can defend as well.

“We put a lot of time into that and getting everyone on the same page. We clearly play a team defence and everyone works together in that sense. “That’s just something we’ve been working on all the way through.”
