THE 2024 AFL Women’s season may not be over yet, but there is already news about the season structure for 2025.
Despite rumours that the season would kick off mid-year, the AFL announced that the 2025 AFL Women’s season will commence the week beginning August 11. The season will run through until late November, with the grand final set to take place on Saturday, 29 November. Preseason will commence for the players on Monday, May 19.
The season will consists of 12 home and away rounds over 12 weeks, with four weeks of finals. It does mean the compressed fixture is gone, but the AFL has not ruled out playing games mid-week.
The dates mean that the season will run at the same time as it did in 2024, but it will commence two weeks earlier than in 2024 to give room for the extra two matches. There will be some overlap between the end of the men’s home and way season and the start of the women’s season, with the 2025 AFL Women’s season set to kick off in Round 23 of the AFL Men’s season.
In a statement, the General Manager of AFLW Emma Moore said that it was important to provide certainty for clubs, players and fans.
“We are pleased to be able to confirm the season structure for the 2025 NAB AFLW season and wanted to provide these dates earlier than ever before, giving our clubs, players and fans stability and time to plan leading into next season,” Moore said.
“Work will continue on the fixture for 2025 following the completion of this season and we will have further information to share in the coming months.”
