WAFLW 15 to Watch in 2025: #10 Carys D’Addario

STRONG and capable of winning the ball both on the inside and outside, Carys D’Addario made it back-to-back Swan Districts players in our WAFL Women’s countdown of players to watch. D’Addario is one who has had some injury interruptions over the last couple of years, but looms as one to improve in 2025 with some continuity.
CARYS D’ADDARIO PROFILE
DOB: 01/03/2007
Height: 168cm
Position: Midfielder
Club: Swan Districts
West Australian Female Talent Manager Trent Cooper says:
“Carys has had a terrible run with injury. Missed both the 16s championships two years ago and the 18s championships last year. Again looking long-term we’ve had a slower build up but she’s now in full training and really impressing with the work that she’s does and you expect her to have a really good year for Swan Districts as a midfielder-forward.”
SUMMARY
D’Addario was an eye-catching junior star coming through the pathways, with the midfielder cracking in for a taste of action at WAFL Women’s level for four games in 2023. That year started like a house on fire with D’Addario picking up 17 disposals, three marks and laying seven tackles in her debut League game as a 16-year-old. Unfortunately injury struck and she missed the rest of the year, and the Under 16s Championships.
It was looking more positive for the bottom-ager last season as D’Addario became a household fixture in the Swan Districts midfield and rotating forward across 13 games in 2024. She had a clean run from Round 1 until Round 15, before injury struck again on the edge of finals. D’Addario would miss both the finals and national championships.
What stands out about D’Addario’s game when she is on the park is her awareness and smarts both at the contest and away from it, making good decisions and hitting targets by hand or foot. Those natural abilities really stand out, while looking to build up her endurance having missed patches of time throughout her football journey.
Not the most explosive athlete there which is another area D’Addario can work on, she can be incredibly damaging using her power and strength to break tackles and still deliver cleanly and when she is forward, can impact the scoreboard as well. Expect her to play a key role both midfield and attack for the black and whites in season 2025.
