STRENGTHS:
+ Athleticism
+ Power
+ Upside
+ X-factor
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Consistency
- Endurance
Ryda Luke burst out of the ground with an eight-goal first half early in the WAFL Colts season, a game which helped propel him into the West Australian state squad. The Fremantle Next Generation Academy member missed the first two National Championships games through injury, but returned and later played a hand in South Fremantle's run to the Colts Grand Final.
There is tremendous upside in Luke's profile. He is a powerful athlete boasting explosive speed and a spring-heeled vertical leap - traits which help him impact the game both in the air and at ground level. That lends to his sense of X-factor, with Luke capable of taking big marks, kicking goals from anywhere, and producing eye-catching moments out of nothing.
While he sustained relatively strong scoreboard impact with 21 goals in 11 Colts games, Luke's consistency is an area for improvement. Perhaps the best example is his breakout game, where he booted eight goals in a half and went without a touch thereafter. Building a stronger endurance base will help elevate his production and allow his raw talent shine for longer. Fremantle will have priority access to Luke and fellow NGA product Toby Whan, but has set no guarantee on draft night.
