2025 CTL | Round 5 Player of the Week: Daniel Annable

QUEENSLAND has made it back-to-back Player of the Week nominations from the Coates Talent League Boys’ competition after Brisbane Lions Academy star midfielder Daniel Annable earned the nod in Round 5. Following on from Gold Coast Suns Academy’s Max Hudson last week, Annable was a class above during the Lions Academy’s big win over Tasmania Devils on the Apple Isle.

>> Preseason Q&A: Daniel Annable (Lions Academy)

Annable amassed 33 disposals, seven marks, four tackles, eight clearances, seven inside 50s, two rebound 50s and a goal in the Lions’ 12.8 (80) to 4.8 (32) victory yesterday. He racked up 11 more disposals than any other player on the ground, and continued his fantastic form to start the 2025 season having earned best afield honours in the National Academy’s first game against Richmond VFL.

>> Scouting Notes: AFL Academy vs. Richmond VFL

Annable’s closest competitor for the Player of the Week was perhaps his fellow National Academy members from Queensland in Beau Addinsall (33 disposals, five marks, three tackles, eight clearances, four inside 50s and two goals) and Dylan Patterson (26 disposals, seven marks, four tackles, four clearances, four inside 50s and two rebound 50s). However they were among a stack of Suns who split the contribution in a huge 55-point win over Eastern Ranges.

Swans Academy member Lachlan Carmichael (30 disposals, six marks, three inside 50s and eight rebound 50s) and Nicholas Andreacchio (30 disposals, seven marks, five tackles, dive clearances, seven inside 50s, three rebound 50s and a goal) were both prominent in a tight win over Oakleigh Chargers on Saturday. From the Giants Academy, Jim Houston (24 disposals, 12 marks, 20 hitouts, 10 inside 50s and five clearances) was enormous out of the ruck against Sandringham with the equivalent of a quadruple-double.

From the other matches, Oscar Roberts (28 disposals, 16 marks) and Cody Gardiner (28 disposals, seven marks, 12 tackles, eight clearances and six inside 50s) impressed for Murray Bushrangers, while Nicholas Driscoll (27 disposals, six marks, four clearances, 10 inside 50s and a goal) and Thomas Burton (34 disposals, seven marks, five tackles, six clearances, three inside 50s and seven rebound 50s) went toe-for-toe in Northern’s win over Western.
