Who will the Pies take?

Collingwood goes into the draft with only a few picks. One of those will be used to upgrade Jack Frost, so the Pies are likely to only use picks 27 and 66.

Pick 32 (originally 27)

The big fish: Aidyn Johnson

We haven’t had the chance to see much of Johnson through his injury battle, but he’s shown enough. His best skill is his elite speed and agility, as he looks to use it all across the ground. Johnson kicked four goals playing as a deep forward as a 17-year old. He’s got smarts around goals and he is a pretty good user of the football.

Plan B: Brayden Fiorini

Fiorini is one of the best ball users in the draft and he can play in a variety of roles. He’s an excellent rebounder from half back, who also shows accountability as a defender. Fiorini also showed that he can find the ball in bunches as a midfielder, although he remains predominately an outside player.

Pick 56 (originally 66)

The big fish: Blake Hardwick

Hardwick is a small forward who is one of the strongest players for his size. He’s also too quick and smart for taller defenders, which makes him a difficult match up. Hardwick is an accurate kick for goal with great range on his set shots. He’s shown some progress as a tough inside midfielder, but if he does get drafted, it will certainly be as a full-time forward.

Plan B: Sam Skinner

The Pies could do with an extra versatile tall. The 199 centimetre Skinner has shown he can play down back, in the ruck or as a forward. He looked like a possible second-round pick before he went down with a long-term injury, but his competitive spirit has kept recruiters sure that he can still succeed at the next level.
