2025 RMC MEDAL | Baker-West back in business

AFTER missing the last couple of rounds due to injury, Calder Cannons’ Chloe Baker-West quickly made up lost ground in the absence of Oakleigh duo Chloe Bown and Bailee Martin in the Rookie Me Central Medal count. The Round 12 votes are in with just four matches played and a host of Vic Metro and Vic Country players absent.

However missing Metro’s first national carnival match and only just returning from injury, Baker-West racked up 44 touches and the full five votes in a 26-point loss to Sandringham Dragons. She was joined with the perfect vote gathering by Metro teammate Josephine Bamford who starred through both the ruck and up forward in Eastern’s 35-point victory over Tasmania Devils.

Our Round 12 Player of the Week in Cleo Barbakas naturally earned best afield honours in the victory over Western Jets, while Dandenong Stingrays top-ager Indi Sherritt racked up 31 touches in a tough nine-point defeat against Geelong Falcons. Without any massive blowouts, the contributions were relatively evenly spread – bar Baker-West’s mammoth effort – which meant deciding votes was trickier than most weeks.

Given Vic Metro faces Western Australia over in Perth on Sunday, the likes of Oakleigh, Calder, Northern Knights, Eastern Ranges and Western Jets will still be under strength and they all take on non-metropolitan sides in Round 13.
