Top 10 becomes 14 on RMC Medal leaderboard

WHILE the podium sitters remain unchanged, three Round 13 vote-getters have extended the Rookie Me Central Medal leaderboard to 14 players. Most notably, Sandringham Dragons midfielder Rory Wright made his way back up the rankings after gathering 30 disposals in his first appearance since Round 5.

Wright’s exploits were good enough for two votes, polling in all of his five games this season. Only pole-sitter Willem Duursma has yielded votes in as many matches. Wright was beaten to best afield honours by Calder forward Hussien El Achkar, who booted a bag of goals in the Cannons’ one-point loss.
El Achkar emphatically put his recent yips behind him to convert six straight scoring shots, proving a promising sign for Essendon and its Next Generation Academy (NGA) prospect. Fellow Bombers NGA member Adam Sweid also nabbed a vote in that game for his 34 disposals and seven clearances.
Along with Wright, Bendigo over-ager Tom Evans and Gippsland tackling machine Luke Cheffers also entered the top 10. The latter pair both polled two votes in Round 13 to join a half-dozen other players tied for equal-sixth. Wright is one of three players in equal-fourth just one vote ahead of the pack.
Player of the Week Jake Miller was rewarded for his monumental debut, nabbing the full three votes for his 11 marks and four goals in the Western Jets’ loss to Oakleigh. Despite his side going down by 30 points, the 16-year-old key forward proved he’ll be one to watch over the next couple of years.
Elsewhere, Gabriel Stumpf beat Evans to the three votes on the back of 31 disposals and 13 marks in Northern’s two-point loss to Bendigo. Fellow over-ager Kobe George was also best afield ahead of two Geelong tall forwards after gathering 28 disposals in the Falcons’ five-goal win over Dandenong.
Eastern Ranges captain Oliver Greeves picked up where he left off with 33 touches and a goal in the Ranges’ big win over Greater Western Victoria. Meanwhile, Gippsland livewire Keenan Boi booted four goals and laid five tackles to be the Powers’ best in a 53-point victory over Murray.
