TASMANIAN double bottom-ager Matilda Lange produced a massive game in Tasmania Devils’ last of the regular Coates Talent League Girls season to earn our Player of the Week nomination for Round 16. Lange finished with a bang as her Devils saluted in a big way over Bendigo Pioneers, running out 46-point winners down at Windsor Park.

Lange was part of the ‘Fab Four’ midfield rotation that includes past Player of the Week winner Mia Anderson and All-Australians Mischa Barwin and Priya Bowering, The quartet combined for 100 disposals between them, as well as 10 marks, 19 tackles, 25 clearances and 19 inside 50s. The 2009-born Lange – who has won back-to-back MVPs at Under 16s level – had 30 disposals, four marks, six tackles, 11 clearances, eight inside 50s and two rebound 50s in the match.

She became the second consecutive double bottom-ager to win the award – and third for the season – after Scarlett Bown last round followed on from Oakleigh teammate Cleo Barbakas a month earlier. Lange also breaks a streak of three metropolitan players, and becomes the second Devils talent to be nominated after Anderson in Round 13.

It was essentially a two-horse race for the Round 17 nomination with Northern Knights’ Olivia Gorman picking up a league-high 34 disposals, as well as seven marks, 11 clearances and four inside 50s in the Knights’ tight loss to Western Jets.

Past Player of the Week nominee and current Rookie Me Central Medal leader Chloe Bown had another big performance of 33 disposals, eight marks, six tackles, three clearances and eight inside 50s rotating between midfield and attack in a victory over Geelong Falcons in Werribee.
