Coates Talent League finals fixtures set

THE OPENING round of Coates Talent League boys finals have been set, while the girls roll on into the final four over what is set to be a bumper weekend. Sunday’s triple-header of boys quarter finals headlines the action, with six teams converging on Toorak Park for a spot in the prelims.

>> FORMAT: Coates Talent League Wildcard Round & Finals

Boys minor premier Gippsland Power enters the postseason after earning a week off in Wildcard Round, taking on Geelong Falcons after the latter won through in a thriller against Bendigo. Meanwhile, top Metro seed Eastern Ranges will battle lucky loser Calder Cannons, who went down to Oakleigh last week.

The blockbuster triple-header is rounded out by a clash between local rivals Sandringham and Oakleigh. Chasing a fourth consecutive premiership, the Dragons got the wood over the Chargers only a fortnight ago in Round 19, winning by 39 points in what was their third clash for the season.

Before that all goes down, a standalone Saturday fixture sees Dandenong Stingrays play host to GWV Rebels at Mars Stadium. Despite Ballarat being the Rebels’ home deck, the Stingrays are the higher-ranked team in the Country conference, and both sides progressed through the Wildcard comfortably.

The Country and Metro conferences cross over in the girls competition, with respective top seeds Dandenong Stingrays and Eastern Ranges looking to follow through on their rankings. Although, two-time reigning premiers Oakleigh Chargers could play spoiler in search of a third consecutive crown.

Oakleigh takes on Dandenong for a spot in the decider at Shepley Oval on Sunday morning. Should the Chargers win, it could set up a third-straight grand final meeting with Eastern. The Ranges – minor premiers – meet Murray Bushrangers in Saturday’s preliminary final at La Trobe University.
