GIANTS Academy top-ager Brea Trevitt played a key part of Parramatta Goannas’ program last season in the AFL Sydney Women’s Premier Division and though she is yet to represent the orange and charcoal at Coates Talent League Girls level, is set to build her game even more this season.
We spoke to Trevitt over the weekend at the Giants Academy’s Preseason Testing event.
Q: Brea, tell us a bit about your footy journey?
BT: “Well I started in Year 4 at school. Just as a term sport. Then I started playing juniors at Tigers so that’s in Hobson Park, and then I moved to Camden and then I got into the Giants Academy when I was around Under 11s, and then I moved to Parramatta Goannas two years ago.”
Q: How have you found that rise from local footy up to the Prems division?
BT: “I reckon it was pretty good. It was a really good challenge for the younger girls. It was a big step up. But the older girls really pulled it together and helped us.”
Q: Who’s had the most individual influence on your career do you think?
BT: “I reckon Amanda Farrugia. I played with her at Goannas last year and she was an amazing rolemodel. I stuck up with her in the midfield and we just worked together really well.”
Q: What do you see as some of the strengths in your game?
BT: “I think my decision making or footy IQ and a good 45 kick.
Q: In terms of the improvements you’re looking to make?
BT: “Definitely my individual key position, just wondering what the coaches want me to do and how I can perform.”
Q: What position are you looking to play?
BT: “Midfield or as a key forward, either one.”
Q: What AFLW club do you support?
BT: “Giants and Swans, bit of both.”
Q: Whose a current player at the top level you look up to at the moment?
BT: “Right now our Giants coach Alicia Eva. She’s a really good rolemodel when I was younger, so it’s a great coincidence she’s our Giants coach now.”
Q: What goals do you set for yourself?
BT: “This year’s pretty big with school and footy, so just to do my best and if I do amazing with that, then that’s what I want to do.”
