2026 AFLW Draft Q&A: Evie Bingham

TASMANIAN talent Evie Bingham has come through the pathways with the Devils as a strong pressure forward who can roll through the midfield, and though she played just four games last season, looms as one to watch in 2026.

The North Hobart prospect was named in the AFLW National Academy and we spoke to Bingham at Saturday’s Tasmania Preseason Testing Day about her football journey, game and goals for the year ahead.

Q: Evie, tell us a bit about your footy journey?

EB: “I was 13 when I started, but when I was 12, I kicked the ball around at school and this teacher came up to me and was like ‘you should play footy, I feel like you’d be able to make AFLW’ so then I went to mum ‘can I play footy?’ and she was like ‘yeah but only if you get your dad to take you’ and I just started from there.”

Q: How’s it been coming from local leagues progressing through to play Devils?

EB: “I think its been pretty hard because you’ve got so many girls coming through that are amazing and at the same time its been a pretty easy process because Devils are there to support you.”

Q: This year, where are you hoping to play positionally?

EB: “Midfield and a half-forward role.”

Q: What do you see as some of the strengths in your game?

EB: “Tackling and pressure, my speed.

Q: What about your improvements?

EB: “Endurance. I’ve been injured so getting my endurance back up to its best again.”

Q: What injuries have you had?

EB: “I’ve had shin splints and a groin injury, so its been pretty hard to train for the whole time without it triggering.”

Q: Was that sustained during the season or post-season?

EB: “It’s just been off-season so coming back, it’s been pretty hard.”

Q: Who’s had the most individual influence on your career?

EB: “Honestly my parents. Then competition with Evie Ward and a few of my local club coaches like Jim Ransom.”

Q: Which AFLW club do you support?

EB: “Melbourne. Same with the men’s too.”

Q: Is there a reason, family?

EB: “Yeah my dad.”

Q: Is there a play you look up to or model your game on?

EB: “Kate Hore. She’s a really good forward and I hope to be like her.”

Q: What goals do you set for yourself this year?

EB: “Just keep it easy because obviously I’ve been injured so I can’t keep coming back and just getting reinjured.”
