CENTRAL District tall Miyu Endersby has the balance of athleticism and versatility that catch the eye, while boasting a powerful kick wherever she goes. Capable of playing half-back and through the ruck, Endersby looms as one of the top South Australian prospects in the 2026 AFLW Draft.
We spoke to Endersby at the recent South Australian Preseason Testing Day about her footy journey, game and goals for the year ahead.
Q: Miyu, tell us a little bit about your footy journey?
ME: “I started my footy at my local club which is Angaston footy club in the Barossa. I did Auskick for a little bit and then I grew up playing footy with the boys in the Under 9s and 11s and all that while doing other sports on the side. When I was about 10 to 11 they made a girls team, the Under 14s and Under 17s for our local club. I was lucky enough to join them being on the inaugural side as well. Went out to Centrals for the Development program. From there, grew up with Centrals and then got invited to State Under 16s and then did some Crows Academy, some multicultural stuff on the side, it was good.”
Q: You had one year crossover with Charlotte Riggs, what was it like learning off her playing a similar role?
ME: “I remember meeting her in the Development and we got paired off a little bit to do some ruckwork. Then when we were playing together she played anywhere, she was very versatile. But she mainly played centre half-back and I was in the ruck, and maybe we’d do some of that rotation swapping between the two. But it was really good to learn off what she does in a game. I try to aim to be like her, she’s really great.”
Q: What’s your favourite position?
ME: “My favourite position would probably be in the backline, centre half-back, full-back. I don’t mind where I play, I enjoy it wherever I am.”
Q: What do you see as some of the strengths in your game?
ME: “My strengths would be my vertical, or taking some good marks and I’ve got a long kick.”
Q: What are you looking to improve on at the moment?
ME: “I’m looking to improve on my explosiveness on the footy, and being able to sprint straight out of a contest, take the ball on with the run with momentum and execute skills right after that as well. Just getting my footy smarts up, running smarter not further or harder. Just being smart with the footy.”
Q: Which AFLW club do you support?
ME: “I support the Crows, they’re awesome.”
Q: Is there a player you mould your game on?
ME: “Not particularly. I do enough watching, however I’ve never seen myself in other players. I guess I’m my own player, my own person, but I do take inspiration from many people.”
Q: What goals do you set for yourself this year?
ME: “My outcome goals would probably be obviously getting drafted to an AFLW team, that’s literally the dream. But maybe some smaller goals might be just playing really consistent this year, playing really good, just having a decent season.”
