2026 AFLW Draft Q&A: Beth Morris

BENDIGO Pioneers midfielder Beth Morris is a tough inside ball-winner who earned a spot in the Vic Country hub off the back of some consistent Talent League Girls football. Set to play a number of roles in 2026, Morris will look to take her game to another level.

We spoke to Morris at the recent Talent League Girls Preseason Testing event about her footy journey, game, inspirations and goals.

Q: Beth, tell us a little bit about your footy journey?

BM: “I grew up playing with the boys. I started with Auskick and worked my way up for the Echuca Football Club. Then after 14s there’s the rule that you can’t play with the boys anymore, so I transferred over the bridge to Moama footy club and played with the girls so have been there for the last five years.”

Q: In terms of that rise from local up to the Pios?

BM: “I started Pios my first game when I was 15. It was definitely a speed shock more so, but it’s put us in good stead.”

Q: Do you see yourself playing midfield again or a couple of different roles?

BM: “I’ll probably play a couple of different roles to show my outside game a bit more this year, but I’m most reliable in that inside role.”

Q: What do you see as some of the strengths in your game?

BM: “My aerobic capacity along with my quick hands out of the stoppage, and my clearance craft also.”

Q: What about the improvements you’re looking to make?

BM: “Just my long-range kicking really that I’m working on at the minute.”

Q: Who’s had the most influence on your career?

BM: “My parents have definitely had the most influence on me. They’ve just supported me all the way and do everything for me.”

Q: Which AFLW club do you support?

BM: “I support Richmond Tigers.”

Q: Is there a reason? Family?

BM: “My whole family supported them growing up so I haven’t just jumped on the bandwagon after all those premierships.”

Q: Who’s a player you look up to or model your game on at the top level?

BM: “I look up to Ellie McKenzie, she’s just a gun and can play all positions. Really versatile for the Tiges”

Q: Finally, what goals do you set for yourself this year?

BM: “Consistent footy along with showing my leadership aspect, and at the end of the day get drafted.”
