Top prospects on the board in RMC Medal
A BUNCH of top draft prospects have staked their Rookie Me Central Medal claims in Round 1, including last year’s second place sitter Cody Walker. The Carlton father-son prospect racked up 28 disposals, eight clearances and two goals in Bendigo’s win over Tasmania, good enough for two votes.

Pioneers bottom-ager Max Thompson polled the full allotment for his stunning 32 touches and two goals off half-back, while fellow 2027 prospect Jake Beams rounded out the votes as Tassie’s best. The 181cm defender amassed a team-high 27 disposals, eight marks and 10 rebound 50s in the defeat.
Walker’s fellow pick one fancy Harry Van Hattum was also in the votes, earning two for his 19 disposals, 20 hitouts and pair of goals. Northern teammate Harvie Cooke ran rampant with 29 disposals, nine tackles and nine clearances to be adjudged best afield in the Knights’ thumping win over Oakleigh.
Extending the top 10 talent to go big were Gippsland forward Wil Malady and Sandringham star Arki Butler. The former booted six goals from 16 disposals and seven marks as the Power thrashed Murray, while the latter was named Player of the Week for his 26 touches and four goals against Eastern.
Meanwhile, a trio of over-agers began their midseason draft push in style. Western ruck Macauli Buck was influential with 23 disposals, 22 hitouts and eight clearances as the Jets beat Calder. On the opposing side, Nicholas Staropoli nabbed a vote for his role in a besieged defence.
The third and final 2007-born player to get on the board was Sandringham forward Ollie Griffin. He brought plenty of presence and power en route to six marks and two goals, as his side exacted revenge in the highly anticipated Grand Final rematch.
