Mid-season draft prospect among RMC Medal votes
MID-SEASON draft hopeful Ollie Griffin is again amongst the Rookie Me Central Medal votes after Round 2 of the Talent League season. The powerhouse forward booted four goals from 17 disposals and nine marks as his Sandringham Dragons suffered a shock loss to local rival, Oakleigh.

Griffin’s exploits saw him pick up two votes after polling one in the opening weekend. While he is one of just six players to have earned votes in both of the first two rounds, his tally of three puts him among a group of 15 players tied for equal-third spot on the leaderboard.
Griffin was beaten out to best on ground honours by Player of the Week Sebastian Marsic. The 194cm Oakleigh forward broke out with seven goals from 15 disposals and six marks to spearhead his side’s win. Bottom-age midfielder Harper McCullough was also integral and took out a single vote.
The early frontrunner this year is Northern Knights mid-forward Harvie Cooke, who has been adjudged best afield in both of the Knights’ wins to date. He posted 21 disposals, five clearances and two goals to snatch the three votes ahead of teammate Max Downes (27 disposals, two goals).
Carlton father-son gun Cody Walker isn’t far behind on four votes having bagged two in each of his games. His latest performance very nearly helped drag Bendigo over the line against Murray, settling for a draw on the back of 30 touches, 11 clearances, nine tackles and a goal.
While Walker’s numbers were stunning, fellow Richmond Next Generation Academy product Tanner Armstrong took out the full allotment of votes with his 31 disposals, nine tackles, nine clearances and one goal. He has racked up over 30 possessions in both weeks to start the season.
Another top-ager pressing his case early in the season is Dandenong midfielder Jackson Phillips, who has polled twice so far while also catching the eye of recruiters. Meanwhile, Tasmanian superboot Jake Beams has been on fire and racked up 34 kicks en route to two votes against Western.
