The battling Falcons were looking to get on the board after a 0-3 start to the season, but faced a stiff task in hosting the reining premiers. Although, South entered the clash fresh off a loss to Claremont. Nonetheless, the defensively sound Bulldogs held firm in a 30-point road victory to move to 3-1.

    #20 Koby LeCras (West Perth)

South Fremantle’s stingy team defence made it difficult for a chipping West Perth to make progress with ball in hand, but once the Falcons made it up to the wing, LeCras was in play. His first touch at senior level was a nervy chest mark on the lead, and that ability to present up the ground became a hallmark of his game.

Opposed by Jacob Sax, LeCras leant on his athleticism to provide an option down the line, often gaining separation on the lead. His ability to extend overhead and clunk the ball was terrific, particularly with an effort in the final term as Sax stuck on his hammer.

LeCras also showed his wares closer to goal with an outstanding one-on-one mark inside 50. His craft came to the fore with an initial push-off before plucking the ball overhead thanks to his natural reach. Although, LeCras uncharacteristically wobbled his set shot out on the full.

Other notable aspects of LeCras’ performance included his pressure acts. He got into position to intercept a couple of South Fremantle kick-ins and chased hard, with such acts setting the tone for West Perth’s second term revival. In that period, the Falcons turned up the pace and pressure to start scoring.

The lean tall talent can look to add some size and boost his physicality in the future, although has great quality as that mobile forward option. He spent the whole day there and is a natural ahead of the ball. He even shook off a heavy hit while crashing a third-quarter pack to run out the game.

    #21 Lucas Robinson (South Fremantle)

Robinson started like a house on fire and accrued just about half of his total stats by quarter time. He got involved early as South Fremantle pounced on forward half turnovers, slipping into space to clunk a pair of strong overhead marks inside 50. After hooking his first set shot out on the full, he straightened up to slot home the next from long-range.

With four League appearances under his belt now, Robinson proved he was up for the fight of League footy with hard tackling intent and clean stoppage extraction. He made himself dangerous at forward 50 ball-ups with his sheer size and ability to release the ball from congestion.

Further to Robinson’s readymade aspect was a nice fend-off in the first term. He continued to hunt the ball and attempt to lay tackles, while popping up with another terrific overhead mark in term four and holding his own at the contest.

Robinson simply didn’t fumble and showed nice poise to hit a short kick amid corridor chaos late in the day. He was given the opportunity to run on-ball after half time but couldn’t quite impose himself there, and can perhaps look to enhance his running power from contest to contest – both in a speed and endurance sense.
