JOSH Daicos has a lot to live up to in 2016, given the sheer excitement that his father Peter brought to not only Collingwood fans, but the sport as a whole. Nicknamed the ‘Macedonian Marvel’, Peter was one of the most genius goal kickers of his era and many Pies fans hold the hope that Daicos can once again be called out from the stands.

On the weekend, Josh Daicos put in a promising performance, playing as a high half-forward, drifting between the wing and forward line, finding 16 disposals, taking eight marks and kicking two goals. While the goals were straight forward, Daicos showed he was a reliable set shot and will have put a smile on all the Pies fans faces at Ikon Park on the weekend.
On Thursday night, Callum Brown played a similar role, after being a pidgeonholed small forward last season. Realising the importance to play up the ground to improve his chances of following in father Gavin’s shoes, Brown collected 17 disposals and took four marks in the Ranges’ strong victory.
Lining up against Brown for the Calder Cannons, was Michael Romero, a nuggety small forward who collected 13 disposals and laid four tackles on a disappointing night for his team. Western Bulldogs fans will be keen to keep an eye on the son of Jose.
Matthew Neagle, the son of the late Merv, took to the ground at Shepparton against the Bendigo Pioneers. In a one-sided contest for the Bushrangers, Neagle had a good all-round game, picking up 12 disposals, taking four marks, laying three tackles and even kicking a goal.
Over in the west, Zane Sumich had a mild second match at Colts level for South Fremantle. The 189cm utility took three marks, had 11 disposals and laid three tackles, almost identical to his first round performance. Arguably the most talked about father-son eligible player, Jake Waterman, had a bye in round two, but dominated round one of Colts for Claremont, with 22 disposals, eight marks and two goals.
Waterman is potentially a first round pick, and is a member of the AFL AIS Academy squad. Meanwhile the final father/son eligible selection, Bill Lambert, son of Craig, is yet to play in season 2016. The UWS Giants’ first match is this weekend, with Lambert also a member of the GWS Giants academy, meaning three teams could potentially bid for him, with the Giants, Tigers and Lions all eligible.
