THE AFL has today announced the National Futures squads for both the boys and girls pathway programs, with the high-performance environment designed to help fast-track some of the most promising young draft prospects.
All players selected in the Futures programs are born in 2009 and therefore eligible for their respective 2027 drafts, with the more than 40 players named across both squads. Among those included are bottom-aged All-Australians in Jake Miller, Lani Cocks, Olivia Leslie and Madeline Nuss, as well as a host of potential father-son prospects in Koby Bewick, Percy Burgoyne, Tevita Rodan and Louis Salopek and father-daughter talent Miley Hynes.
Selected players will participate in two-day programs in Melbourne during September, which will comprise in a talent showcase match.
The AFL National Futures Girls match will take place at Windy Hill on Sunday, September 12 as part of a double-header with the AFLW Round 5 match between Richmond and St Kilda, while the Futures Boys match will once more take place at the MCG as a curtain-raiser to the AFL Grand Final on September 26.
The AFL National Futures matches helps with the selection process for the AFL and AFLW National Academies, however players who don’t participate in the Futures matches are still eligible to be selected for the National Academy.
Final teams and team names will be announced prior to each match with the matches streamed live via the AFL website and AFL Live Official App.
