JASMINE Fleming and Ellie McKenzie have been chosen as the AFL Women’s representatives from which the two National Futures Girls squads are named after, with the final teams to compete in the showcase match on Sunday confirmed. The clash – an exhibition match between the bulk of the most prestigious talents for the 2027 AFLW Draft – will take place at 10:00am on Sunday at Windy Hill, acting as a curtain-raiser to the Richmond and St Kilda Round 5 AFLW contest.

Hawthorn’s Fleming is a former Oakleigh Chargers player, while Richmond’s McKenzie was a star for the Northern Knights, eventually going pick one in her AFLW Draft. The AFL National Futures program brings talented players from across the country together in a high-performance environment ahead of their draft year.

The Futures program also features a camp that includes a training session at the Hangar on Saturday morning in preparation for Sunday’s showcase match. All players were nominated for the Futures programs by state talent managers, national selectors and AFLW club recruiters, with the squad announced last month.

Pick one favourite Matilda Lange headlines an exciting top-end crop, with the incoming Tasmania Devils no doubt excited that a local prospect is among the best talents in the 2027 AFLW Draft. She alongside South Australian duo Lani Cocks and Maia Freemantle are ones to watch, as is Lions Academy prospect Ameleia Murray, NT talent Peggy Rock, West Australian tall Hannah Seaborn and Vic Metro representatives Cleo Barbakas and Maya Duane.

Father-daughter eligible Miley Hynes faces an interesting year with the West Australian’s dad David playing for both West Coast and Fremantle.There’s quite a few family ties in the current AFLW as well, with Scarlett Bown (Chloe), Billie Hamilton (Cynthia and Lexi) and Asia Single (Lucy) all linked to the top level. Murray is also soon to have a family tie, with brother Caylen a first-round prospect in November’s AFL Draft.

The 2026 AFL National Futures match will be broadcast live and free on the AFLW website and AFLW app. Patrons must purchase a ticket to the Richmond and St Kilda clash in order to attend.
