ANOTHER week, another big bag of goals and this time it was Sandringham Dragons’ forward Holly Bate on the end of scoring chain. The in-form forward booted five goals the previous week against the Western Jets, and went two better on the weekend, slamming home seven majors. Her performance was a clear standout from the weekend and earns her the title of AFL Draft Central TAC Cup Girls Player of the Week for round eight.

The performance has seen Bate race into favouritism for the Leading Goalkicker Award, booting 17 goals for the season – 12 of which have come in the past two weeks. She leads Oakleigh Chargers’ forward Daisy Bateman by three goals.

Notes vs. Bendigo Pioneers:

Bate was a standout up forward for the Dragons, booting seven of their ten goals, in their big 71-point win over the Bendigo Pioneers at Trevor Barker Beach Oval on Saturday.  Bate was a dangerous target inside 50, booting goals from set shots and on the run. She had five goals to half time, after a set-shot after the half-time siren went through the big sticks and all the signs pointed to double-figures, as the Pioneers struggled to curb her influence.  In the last quarter, Bate went for 10 – resulting in a few behinds from her shots on goal, but very rarely did she waste a possession close to goal. Bate won a free kick right on the final siren, having a chance to shoot for a record-breaking eight TAC Cup Girls goals – but on a very tough angle, her drop punt missed all together.
