West Adelaide's Georgie Pater came along in leaps and bounds at SANFL Women's level in 2023, playing nine games and successfully returning mid-season from a hamstring injury. The tall defender showed her marking prowess throughout 2023, boasting a clean pair of hands where she averaged 3.3 marks per game to go with her 10.4 disposals.

Pater generally was reliable with ball in and her combination of impacting in the air or at ground level through her competitiveness and defensive pressure caught the eye. She earned a train-on spot with Port Adelaide, and is among the more readymade talents who could step up to an AFL Women's list.

There is still room for growth for Pater who is slightly smaller than the traditional key defender, with her consistency being the main way she can further improve. From an overall game though she showed in patches throughout the season she has what it takes, such as her 20-disposals, seven-mark and five-tackle game against Norwood in Round 11.
