Recap
Matthew Grundy’s scouting notes:
Geelong Falcons:
#10 Mitch Diamond-This was the first time I actually take notice of Mitch and he sure did impress. Mitch played as a small defender this weekend against the Pioneers and showed us signs of his potential as a player. He intercepted the ball nearly every time it went past the half way mark. He runs well, has a strong kick on him and played a crucial role for the Geelong Falcons leading to them winning the game.
#40 Hayden Elliott-One of the more impressive players was Hayden Elliott. He dominated the ruck against the Bendigo Pioneers ruckman and provided some aerial presence around the grounds. This was really apparent in the last quarter when he cut off the kicks out of inside 50 from the Pioneers and locked them in defense. He moves really well around the ground and hes one I would like to see play as a key forward in the future.
Bendigo Pioneers:
#9 Laine Fitzgerald-This year I have been lucky enough to see quite a bit of Fitzgerald and every time I see him he keeps impressing. Fitzgerald played higher up the ground for the Pioneers and worked hard to create space in a very conjested game. He keep his opponent quite all day by playing infront and intercepting the ball before it got too close to goal. Fitzgerald has shown that he has the ability to be a two way player being able to gather the ball as well as stop his man as well.
#11 Riley Saunders-His comeback game after a foot injury sustained playing for Golden Square, he showed some liveliness up forward for the Pioneers. Saunders looks liked he left his foot injury is behind as him as he provided lots of pressure in the forward line and creating goals just by sheer work. In the last quarter he cramped up but that might be due to him not playing for so long. Expect a strong finish to the season for Saunders.
#56 Josh Formosa-What Formosa lacks in height he makes up for in energy around the contest. Formosa this week played as a inside midfielder in the absence of Joseph Atley. He was everywhere around the ground and and had the equal most tackles of any player on the ground. He kept running all day and kept winning the football for his team. Formosa is your footballers footballer as he isn’t too flash but he just does all the basics well.
