Recap

Matthew Grundy’s scouting notes:

Oakleigh Chargers

#4 Ned Reeves-
The 203 cm ruckman from St Kevin’s College showed a lot of promise on Friday night with his tap work. This allowed for the Chargers strong midfield to have first use and Reeves’ follow up work at ground level was good. When Reeves went forward, he showed he has strong hands by taking several marks leading to scoring shots. At this stage, it looks as if Reeves will have the opportunity to ruck for Tasmania in the Division Two Under 18 Championships, an opportunity he can hopefully take with two hands.

#18 Sam McLarty-A really dominant performnace by McLarty at Centre Half Back playing his best game for the year. McLarty has spent a lot of time this year playing forward and it was good to see him move back where I feel he is better suited. McLarty showed a lot of composure and blocked many attacks coming from the Pioneers. McLarty has a good turn of speed and has an effective disposal (one of the best for the talls in the draft).

#28 Josh Daicos- Collingwood Father/Son prospect Josh Daicos continued his strong form in 2016. The son of Peter put together one of his best performances for the Chargers. He was lively up forward and had some moments showing his class. He slotted three goals for the Chargers and is starting to gain form coming into the Under 18 Championships.

Bendigo Pioneers

#8 Paddy Dow- Patty Dow had a really good game for the Pioneers on Friday. The ball magnet was a beast in the contest, winning many clearances in the middle The 186cm midfielder is a nice size for a bottom ager and his quick hands in the contest were a highlight. Dow’s strong performance in the centre gave the outside runners a chance to receive the ball to run and carry. Friday was probably Dow’s best game for the Pioneers and is one to watch for the 2017 draft.

#16 Kobe Mutch- Kobe Mutch stood up on Friday with a great performance in the midfield. Mutch is a ball magnet and showed some real class with his kicking. Mutch is clean on both sides of his body, able to break the game open by foot. Mutch was involved in several plays going forward and performed well on the inside. He does perhaps needs to hit the scoreboard more, but his game on Friday shows why he is a top prospect for the draft.

#21 Inji Fyfe- With two of the Pioneers’ bottom age players off to New Zealand with the Level One academy. Inji Fyfe had the chance to step up and he had a really good game always looking to break the game open. Fyfe has great pace and is happy to tuck the ball underneath his shoulders and run with the ball. Fyfe is another one to keep an eye on for the 2017 draft.
