Recap
Michael Alvaro’s scouting notes
Northern Knights:
#2 Matt Perry – Overage player back for another year with the Knights. He’s a good size at 187cm and can play through the middle or off half back. Comes in and out of games at times, but has accumulated well this year
#7 Mason Blakey – The Knights skipper was terrific last year as a bottom-ager but has struggled a little to make the same impact without the likes of Gresham and Fiorini around him. Smooth mover and hard at it, also uses it well by foot off either half back or a wing
#36 Lachlan Wilson – Bite-sized midfielder/forward who always has a crack. Tackling machine and good around goals, could benefit from more time in the middle
Tasmania:
#14 Nicholas Dodge – An overager who hasn’t shown as much improvement as one would desire. Still stands out in the Tassie team, especially down back as the ball is often down there. Decision making is sometimes poor, usually the go-to for running it out of defence but either blazes away or tries to do too much with it
#18 Ben McGuinness – Key extractor for the Mariners, spends his time on the ball more often than not. Moves well and always finds a way to be near the pill
#22 William Edmunds – Great hands for a guy under 190cm, loves a contested mark but is also really clean on the deck. Almost pulled his side over the line against Northern, has an x-factor about him and can finish. Plays a bit like Charlie Curnow up forward, or maybe a taller Hardwick/Crocker
#25 Tarryn Thomas – One for the future, a bottom ager picked in the U16 rep side. Moves well with a nice bit of speed and may well grow to a decent size
