One of just three West Australian draft combine invitees pulled from outside the state squad, Bailey Maxwell is a project player who showed glimpses of promise at WAFL Colts level. The East Perth ruckman managed 11 games this season, showing serious commitment to travel in for training and games as a country boy. Having battled injury and Covid interruptions, he came out the other side with a combine invite.
Though currently a low-production type with averages of just 8.3 disposals and 1.1 marks this year, Maxwell moves well for a player his size with nice athleticism and speed. That's the kind of thing recruiters look for in developable talls, and his projected potential is arguably what clubs will value at this point. He averaged 16.5 hitouts per game and is enhancing his craft there, before becoming more prominent around the ground - potentially as a resting forward having not snared a goal just yet.
Maxwell is the type of tall which clubs will back themselves to develop in an elite environment. Given the effort it took just to train and play, he perhaps missed out on some of the coaching exposure other prospects may take for granted, so could develop exponentially with more concentrated help over time.
