SNAPSHOT: “A hard-running draft bolter who impressed for the Stingrays and Vic Country in her top-age season.”
Charlotte Gilmore is a player out of the box in 2025, having not initially been named in the Vic Country hub, but after a strong start to the Coates Talent League Girls season, cracked into the squad for the national championships. A specialist winger with some brilliant two-way ability, she also has clean skills and nice upside.
Gilmore’s journey began out at Chelsea in the Frankston and District Junior Football League in 2018. She played 25 games across her first two seasons, becoming a renowned goalkicker in 2019 with 11 majors in 13 matches. Missing out on her 2020 season due to the global pandemic, Gilmore returned the following season and played across both the Under 14s and Under 16s grades.
She represented her competition at the Regional Junior Championships in 2022, and booted nine goals amongst 14 games for Chelsea in the Under 16s competition. By 2023, Gilmore had worked her way into the Stingrays pathway, and played in the Futures matches, before making her Coates Talent League Girls Under 18s debut in Round 8. Despite missing selection for the Vic Country squad that year, Gilmore played 10 games for the Stingrays including both finals and averaged 10.9 disposals and 2.0 inside 50s as a double bottom-ager.
That same year, she was a standout in Chelsea’s premiership win over Edithvale Aspendale in the Under 19s, averaging a goal a game for that season despite not even being 16 yet. Her bottom-age season was a little quieter as she only averaged 8.4 disposals, but still laid 3.3 tackles playing a key role for the Stingrays. A late year birth, Gilmore bounced back from missing out on the Vic Country hub in the best way possible with some terrific early season form.
Eventually she forced her way into the Country lineup, playing three games and averaging 13.3 disposals, 2.3 marks and 3.3 tackles at the national carnival, while ending the season with 13.6 disposals, 3.8 tackles and 2.5 inside 50s for the Stingrays. That form was enough to earn her a State Draft Combine invite.

STRENGTHS:
+ Work rate
+ Two-way running
+ Speed
+ Clean skills
+ Outside game
+ Upside
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Contested work
- Physicality
- Kicking action
Gilmore is a hard-running outside player who has made a name for herself on the wing. While having a quieter bottom-age campaign, she really took her game to another level in her top-age season and it is testament to her work rate and work ethic that she got to the point she did. Like any good winger, she covers ground exceptionally well, working back into defence to help out, and also pushing forward to hit the scoreboard. She kicked six goals for the Stingrays this season which is quite impressive.
While Gilmore does not have any one elite trait, she is above average in a lot. Her speed is quite good - particularly over long distances - and she covers the ground well really digging into her energy levels to run games out. With ball in hand, Gilmore has neat and clean skills with an emphasis on ball retention. While not likely to always take the massive risky kicks, if she spots an option on that 45, she is more than happy to deliver.
One element that could make her even more effective is in her kicking action because when she releases by foot - both on the move and after a mark - her back foot raises on the follow-through which forces a straight leg kick. It seems to largely work for her as she generally puts it to advantage, but the action can be slightly refined to ensure lower more precise kicks.
Quite often Gilmore is seen surging forward in transition and delivering the ball to advantage inside 50. That run that she provides helps break open games and while again there is no one elite element to her profile, she just does a lot of things right. By the same token, she still has a lot to work on which is exciting for her potential upside going forward.
Gilmore's physicality and contested game are two such areas she can continue to build upon. While the Stingrays top-ager did enter some centre bounces during 2025, her best work was done off a wing, which is where she also played for Vic Country. Adding that stronger frame and greater physicality will allow her to match up better one-on-one.
Other than that, further increases to her production will also help, with Gilmore not a huge ball-winner. Being on the outside it can be a little hit and miss, but with all-round improvements she can win more first or second possession disposals and impact the game closer into the contest. As a whole though, the Vic Country talent's game is in a good place and she has thrown her hat in the ring to get picked up this year.
DRAFT RANGE: 40-60
SUMMARY:
Charlotte Gilmore is one of a number of players in draft contention later on in the draft, having produced a really solid top-age campaign to earn Vic Country honours. While there are no guarantees, Gilmore has the foundational base and point of difference as a two-way runner which helps her play an important team role in any side she takes part in.
