SNAPSHOT: “An exceptionally versatile talent with nice skills and footy smarts that help her adapt to any position.”
Georja Davies is one of the top prospects in this year’s AFLW Draft having won Queensland’s MVP at the national carnival last year as a bottom-ager, and played yet another role in 2025 developing her traits as an intercepting defender to go with every other position on the field.
Davies is part of one of the most recognisable AFLW families, with sisters Giselle, Fleur and Darcie all reaching the top level. The youngest of the four was touted early on as being the most developed of the four at the same age, and she certainly showed that with an accolade-filled CV ahead of entering the elite level.
Davies’ junior career began at Southport and she has remained there for almost a decade, first playing in the Under 13s back in 2017, playing 68 games across her first five seasons at the Sharks. By 2022, she was named in the Suns Academy’s squad for the intra-state National Development Championships against the Lions Academy where she caught the eye.
But 2023 would be the year that Davies exploded on the scene, making her QAFLW seniors debut and booted six goals across five games – which did included a four-goal haul on debut – when she wasn’t representing the Suns at the Under 16 Championships or Coates Talent League. In the former, Davies booted seven majors – including a five-goal haul against the Swans Academy – as she caused all sorts of headaches inside 50.
At Coates Talent League level, Davies played three games and averaged 10.3 disposals, 2.3 marks, 20.0 hitouts and kicked four goals rotating between the ruck and forward. In 2025, she moved into an on-ball role while still taking ruck contests in rotation with Havana Harris. Her national carnival of 23.0 disposals, 5.3 marks, 16.0 hitouts, 5.0 tackles, 4.0 clearances and 3.3 inside 50s earned her Queensland’s MVP for the series.
Fast forward to 2025, and Davies’ versatility was still somehow able to grow, developing into an intercepting defender where her reading the play and vertical jump came to the fore. She managed 20.0 disposals, 5.7 marks, 4.3 tackles and 3.0 rebound 50s across three matches at Coates Talent League Girls level, before picking up 17.0 disposals, 3.8 marks, 10.5 hitouts, 3.8 tackles and 4.0 rebound 50s.
A dual All-Australian at AFLW Under 18 Championships level in two different positions, Davies embodies the term ‘unicorn’ for the way she can play in any role on any line thanks to her footballing skills, smarts and 184cm size. One of a number of Suns Academy members in line to head to the Gold Coast, she will be in the top few for the club to manage.

STRENGTHS:
+ Vertical jump
+ Versatility
+ Ruck craft
+ Aerial ability
+ Reading the play
+ Endurance
+ Skills
+ Upside
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Midfield craft
- Strength
Davies' game is most noted with her aerial ability underpinned by her vertical jump. She can leap high, and at 184cm is already towering above most opponents. Her ruck craft, having spent significant time in the role is superb, not just winning hitouts, but palming them down to advantage as well. On top of that, her safe hands allow her to consistently intercept marks, or when forward clunk grabs and hit the scoreboard.
Obviously Davies' versatility is a major strength in itself. Coach Rhyce Shaw would be rubbing his hands together at the thought of adding a 184cm utility who can be put in any third in a similar vein to Havana Harris who Davies worked so closely with over the last couple of seasons. Aside from her vertical jump that allows her to thrive in the key position roles, the Queensland talent has outstanding endurance which also enables her to cover the ground exceptionally well for long periods of time.
With ball in hand, Davies is a smart user, able to hit-up targets by foot or deliver well-weighted handballs in transition. At her size, the fact she can regularly hit targets is a huge plus, and given she does read the play so well, in the chance she turns it over, positions herself well to intercept again. With a long, penetrating kick when required, Davies' ball use is not of concern and is considered a strength of hers.
One area from a footballing perspective that can improve is her stoppage craft, which she noted in the preseason. While she spent most of her time behind the ball in 2025, if she is thrown back at the stoppages next year or in the future, she can further develop the reading off hands at clearances. She is so effective at palming it down to others, it is a case of having a role reversal in that way.
In addition, the other improvement for Davies is to just continue to build strength. She has been able to dominate at junior levels with similarly sized peers in terms of strength, and she is simply too tall and athletic for them, but at AFLW level, she will find herself engaged in wrestles with more experienced and bigger-bodied players. That is something she can easily improve with plenty of work over the off-seasons in an elite environment.
Overall, Davies' footballing traits and athleticism make her a nightmare for most opposition coaches. She doesn't necessarily have the explosiveness of Harris, but Davies is mobile, and her aerial ability and incredible knack for breaking ankles without giving it away is something to behold. Many opponents have been tricked when Davies is lining up for goal or just outside her range doing her routine only for the Queenslander to sidestep them at the last second on the mark.
Going forward, there is enormous upside when it comes to Davies. She has the size and traits that most players can only dream of, and while there is improvement to come, it is clear she is among the top few players in this year's draft, most of whom will be her teammates at AFLW level.
DRAFT RANGE: 2-6
SUMMARY:
Georja Davies is tall utility who has played across all three lines with great success. She has great footballing nous, controls the airways and uses the ball exceptionally well. Davies is set to become the fourth sibling in her family to reach the elite level which is simply incredible. Expect her to go in the first half dozen selections.
