Summary
SNAPSHOT: “A competitive key position forward who can also play through the ruck with a nice vertical jump.”
Grace Parsons is one of a number of Sydney Swans Academy members in the frame to be drafted in the 2025 AFLW Draft following a strong top-age campaign that included stints with not only the Swans, but with the Allies and a flag with North Shore Bombers in the AFL Sydney Women’s Premier division.
Parsons started her football journey at the Miranda Bombers in 2019, moving through the ranks from Under 12s to Under 16s over the first few seasons. By 2023, Parsons had looked a class above the Under 16s Division 2 level with 29 goals in 15 games for the Bombers including three bags of four goals , and another two games of three majors.
She was featuring in the Swans Academy’s side at the AFLW National Development Championships, and made her debut for St George Dragons in the Women’s Division 3 and 4, before earning a Division 1 debit late in the season. Funnily enough it was against the North Shore Bombers, a side she would cross to mid-season in 2025.
But before that, she worked her way through the Under 17s for Miranda Bombers in 2024, and the Swans Academy’s Under 22 Summer Series across the next two pre-seasons. Three games in teh Coates Talent League for the red and white resulted in Parsons averageing five touches and 3.3 hitouts while booting a goal, before making her debut at Women’s Premier Division level for the Dragons.
In 2024, Parsons kicked four goals from six games at senior level, having featured once at Division 2 level but was a standout and promoted straight back to the top flight. A five-goal haul against Tasmania Devils in Round 3 of the Coates Talent League really put her on the map following a terrific Summer Series carnival, while playing two games for the Dragons across the first half of the season.
An Allies debut against Vic Country followed, and she would play all four games, averaging 5.3 disposals, 1.0 marks and 2.8 tackles, but struggled to get too many looks at goal. Parsons made the switch to the Bombers mid-season to play with the red and black and played six Premier Division games including the entire finals series. The top-ager would become a premiership player, kicking two goals in the grand final and becoming a developing young key forward/ruck in the side.

IMPROVEMENTS:
- Consistency
- Groundballs
- Strength
Parsons is a player you are taking for the long-term. She is not the finished product just yet, and there is much to develop within her game. However the raw, foundational traits she has shown over the last two years has been promising, and in particular through 2025 gives hope that there is still plenty more where that came from.
Perhaps her biggest strength is what she does in the air, both from a jumping and marking perspective. She is only light compared to other forwards, but she can leap at the ball, has safe hands and will usually out-mark opponents or at the very least, not be out-marked and bring the ball to ground. A mobile talent who stands at 180cm, Parsons is also a late-year born player, turning 18 just five days before the AFLW Draft.
Her competitive nature is very good, and she be that tall who not only provides an aerial contest, but will get her hands dirty at ground level and lay significant tackles or apply defensive pressure. She averaged 2.8 tackles per game at both the Coates Talent League Girls and AFLW Under 18 Championships level, and while she also only averaged the 5.3 touches at both, can inflict significant damage on goal when within range.
Parsons booted the first major for the All-Stars against the National Academy when called up for that match at Whitten Oval, and kicking goals is what she does best. Best stationed as a full-forward, Parsons can play at centre half-forward inside 50 as well, with her long-range kick usually a deadeye on goal. Early in the year, Parsons ran at 'kick for your life' type accuracy, nailing goals from all distances and angles.
She showed in her final game of the year that she still could be a match-winner too, with a couple of great goals for North Shore in the grand final. At times this year her consistency wavered, but that is to be expected playing inside 50, particularly for the Allies when they had the likes of bottom-age talent Majella Day as the number one forward inside 50.
When Parsons has a full preseason at the elite level, expect her to grow in both strength and confidence which will in turn help her game going forward. From an upside perspective, she is one who has a lot more to give, and when she is fully developed can be a real headache for opposition defenders. Given her vertical leap she will likely become that secondary ruck, and is a name to remember for the future.

SUMMARY:
Grace Parsons has some really exciting traits for the future, and more than likely will head to the Swans as 180cm mobile key forwards with strong hands and a reliable kick do not grow on trees. Sydney do have a fair few prospects to manage in this year’s AFLW Draft, but one would imagine Parsons finds her way to a club later in the draft.
