SUMMARY: James Rendell is a versatile tall prospect who has put in good shifts around the ground at both TAC Cup and National Championship levels. Son of Fitzroy great, Matt, Rendell is eligible to be picked up as a father-son selection by Brisbane having trained with the senior side late last year. Standing at 200cm, Rendell is comfortable playing in the ruck, but also provided solid support to the likes of Ben King up forward for both Sandringham and Vic Metro. Rendell works hard at ground level and is not afraid to throw his body around, averaging 14.5 disposals, five tackles and two clearances per TAC Cup game this year, proving to be one of the more involved tall players. Despite his admirable work rate on the ground, Rendell can definitely improve on his overall athleticism, posting agility, speed, and vertical leap scores that can be far surpassed with some work. There are not many outstanding ruck prospects in this year’s draft pool, so Rendell’s ability to play that position on top of his forward craft may make him a player worth a look.
