Tasmania's standalone National Academy member this year was Jasper Hay, a competitive and athletic tall who paved his way in the ruck. Also a talented basketballer, the Clarence junior burst onto the scene as an Under 16 All-Australian in 2023, the same year he made his Coates Talent League debut with the Devils.

Possessing a strong leap and follow-up ability, Hay is a capable centre bounce ruckman but ended up transitioning to a role down back this year. There, his aerial ability shone alongside his mobility, while he worked on becoming a more diverse kicker. Hay made two appearances for the Allies on top of his 10 games with Tassie.

There is still room for plenty of growth for the 199cm prospect. He pops in and out of games with flashes of brilliance, so can perhaps work on sustaining his impact throughout four quarters. As is the case with many young key position players, strength is another area for improvement. If not given a chance this year, Hay has the upside to suggest he would be a handy over-age candidate or one for the Tasmanian VFL side to develop.
