One of several prospects to earn draft combine invites from outside representative squads is Jessie Johnstone. After managing just two bottom-age appearances for the Bendigo Pioneers, he established himself at Coates Talent League level this year with 16 games and showed enough to capture the attention of AFL recruiters.

The daring rebounder is a terrific outside runner who likes to take the game on. He's a left-footer who utilises the kick-first approach, making carving runs before delivering the ball. While arguably playing his best footy across half-back, Johnstone has also shown promise with his running power on the wing and even spent time forward this year.

Being an outside-leaning player, his contested possession rate sat at just 24 per cent this season. He can continue to build strength and develop the contested elements of his game, perhaps also boosting his tackle numbers. While a prolific kicker, Johnstone can also work on his execution on the run and delivering flatter, more pinpoint passes.
