Summary
SNAPSHOT: “A damaging ball user with outstanding physicality and hurt factor in the air or around the goals.”
Jovie Skewes-Clinton could be just about anything at the elite level. If she develops into a tall forward or a tall defender, it will likely be a success given her outstanding strength in the air as well as her physicality she applies to the game. As a whole, the Greater Western Victoria (GWV) Rebels utility ticks a lot of boxes.
Skewes-Clinton started her journey at East Point in the Ballarat Football League and she quickly became a revelation, cracking into the Under 13s side despite not even turning 10, and booted seven goals in eight games and was named among the best four times. The following year she cemented her spot in that competition, and was a promising young star who had crossed to Bungaree in 2019.
The global pandemic came and went, with Skewes-Clinton out for a year due to that, but she went back to East Point where she played across the Under 14s, 16s and even had a game in Under 18s despite being just 13 years of age. In her own year level, she was named best in every game and was a class above.
As a potential prospect of the future, Skewes-Clinton was named in GWV Rebels’ V/Line Cup team, represented her league at Under 16s level and was once again best in every game she played fro East Point’s Under 16s side.
With 2023 came opportunities with the Rebels both in the Futures and Under 18s squad, representing Vic Country at the National Development Championships and impressing for Ballarat Storm in the Under 16s and Under 19s competitions.
By 2024, Skewes-Clinton had become a key feature of the Rebels’ lineup, averaging 12.6 disposals, 2.1 marks, 3.4 tackles and 2.3 rebound 50s primarily playing in defence. She started in that role in 2025, but most games early switched into attack where she hit the scoreboard with multiple goals in a quarter. She would finish the year as a primary forward, which was also the role she played under her Rebels coach Sally Riley at Vic Country.
In the end, Skewes-Clinton would finish 2025 with 27 goals across 16 games combining both competitions, and averaged an impressive 17.3 disposals, 3.3 marks, 4.8 tackles and 1.8 goals per game for the Rebels. It was more than enough to justify a National Draft Combine invite.

STRENGTHS:
+ Aerial ability
+ Kicking
+ Hurt factor
+ Versatility
+ Goal sense
+ Physicality
+ Defensive pressure
+ Upside
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Endurance
- Explosive speed
- Four-quarter consistency
A really damaging and impactful player, Skewes-Clinton's ability is not limited to one role. As a defender, her aerial presence and physicality plays a part, and even though she is not necessarily a high possession ball-winner, she can be if the game is on her terms. Her 15 touches feel like 30 especially if they come with goals or goal assists, as has so often been the case when stationed forward.
She seemed to settle in that position through the second half of the year and looked a natural. Early on she would kick a bag in a quarter, but towards the conclusion she was able to have a greater influence across four quarters. That element of her game can still improve - as she can be a touch hit and miss within games - but when she is hitting, it is potentially fatal for the opposition.
For a player who has such great aerial ability and a real physical, powerful presence around the arcs, Skewes-Clinton is not actually explosive. She packs a punch when she hits and loves to get under the skin of opposition players, but is not that likely to beat them in a foot race. More so, she gets there through grit and determination, with that will to tackle and win the ball back for her side exceptionally high.
Skewes-Clinton can improve both her speed and endurance - which has been building - which in turn would assist in greater four-quarter consistency, but for the moment she is a brilliant impact player. The GWV Rebels talent can turn a game in an instant whether she is putting them through the big sticks, or setting up her teammates. Once a kick has sailed home, Skewes-Clinton is a serial celebrator and will produce something different each time, even getting her teammates involved.
The fact Skewes-Clinton still has some key areas to improve upon screams upside and the GWV Rebels and Vic Country utility could get even better. Speed is always a knock with players and it might mean she ends up ridiculous value, but at times during the season, it looked like she was almost taking the mickey with some of the goals she kicked or plays she made.
If an AFLW club can really hone in and enhance her ability to be able to do it for longer, she could seriously be a massive threat for a club inside 50. Even if she ends up a defender, she can be a valuable one-on-one interceptor, and her elite kicking also enables her to hit targets of all distances and have a true impact on matches.
DRAFT RANGE: 20-40
SUMMARY:
Jovie Skewes-Clinton is a naturally talented player who has shown her ability to step up across either end of the ground, and with further development can become a more consistent player. Her hurt factor is ridiculous and she will only get better from here. Clubs might be considering her towards the end of the first round, but certainly in the second round.
